Hi Guys, it me again. Seems everything I've tried in life is just ok, piano, cosmetology, emt, and now photography. Mind you I would never want to become a professional( for money) but I would love to take photo's like you people do.
I really love it when I pick up my camera and feel such a oneness with it, if that makes sense. My photo's are lifeless and dull, doesn't have that sharpness and "pop" I want.
Trying to edit is mine blowing there is so much to learn.
Less is more and I guess I just try to hard. Thanks for listening to an old lady ramble. My teacher used to tell me when I was in beauty school I would get it right and keep trying to improve it. I guess I just need to have fun and leave perfection to the pro's.

This is all my opinion and if you're patient someone that actually knows something will tell you the ins and outs. But for now I'll do what I can.

#1 Looks good to me. I like the background blurred that amount. Is this what you were looking for or something different?

#2 Kids are difficult. They don't sit still much. Your focus is sharp but it's in the wrong place. When you shoot people focus on the eyes. That way catch lites will show up, and cropped a little tight, other then that it's all right.

#3 I know what you mean but I don't know how to help you on this one. I see you're shooting with a Rebel T2i. That's a good camera. Maybe if you take if off program or automatic and (here comes the scary part) play with it in Manual or Aperture or Shutter. Things will pop. There's a lot of help on this forum go to the top and click on 'search' and put in Aperture, Shutter and ISO. You'll get a ton of help. Just keep shooting, posting and asking questions it will come.

They look good but if you want to improve just take more photos. Shoot in manual or at least Aperture or Shutter priority as previously suggested.

It isn't what we think it is about if you captured the moment you wanted.

I love #1. Really think it is the lighting making it almost look 3D.Cute look on the puppy's face. Don't get rid of the camera. Try spending some time on camerasim.com and get a start towards manual.

When you start to question the quality of your pictures you get frustrated, and start thinking about selling your camera.
When you start thinking about selling your camera, you ask your golfing buddies to give you advice.

When you ask your golfing buddies for advice, they tell you to join them at the 19th hole for a chilled beverage.

When you join your friends at the nineteenth hole for a chilled beverage, you make a pass at the pretty bartender.

When you make a pass at the pretty bartender you find yourself in a fight with her boyfriend.

When you find yourself in a fight with the bartender's boyfriend, you get arrested.

When you get arrested you have to post bond.

When you have to post bond, you don't have the money so you tell your wife to sell your camera.

DON'T SELL YOUR CAMERA.

Yes...you need to work on your craft more but who doesn't?

We all are on this timeline at various points and I well understand the frustration of not doing as well as I want to.

Be patient, learn what makes good images, study study study and shoot shoot shoot.

In my opinion....LIGHT makes all the difference. Better to learn how to exploit light and shadow than almost anything else.

A mundane subject dramatially lit is more pleasing to my eye than the best subject with poor lighting.

See if this video makes sense to you; not that you would do this exact process "light painting" but think about how the light is in the shots you've posted above.

Frankly, I think garthhill is light sensitive!! #3 looks great to me and it made me laugh. I enjoyed #2 as well. Is this your little girl or granddaughter? She's very beautiful and you've take a good shot of her. You have a great subject....take more. In fact, can you get the baby in the dog together???

You might try a red-eye correction on the baby. It will help take the flash out of her eyes.
