What is the best walk around lens for the 7D MKII? I currently use the 17-55mm f/2.8 but if doesn't have much reach. Price is somewhat of a consideration. I'm new here so if this has already been discussed please let me know where I can find it. I just read a Nikon user ask the same question. Thank you.

One possibility is The 24-105 f4L IS. Since these were included with several Canon kits, there are Lots around and can be picked up for as little as $500, half the price of new and a bargain for an L series lens. There is a MK II version out, but since they're new, they will cost you full price (>$1000).

I love my 24-105L for my 7D.
Can't be beat for quality, weather/dust sealing and weight.
If budget is an issue then the 18-135 IS USM. It is an EFs lens and will not fit FF cameras if that is in the future. I have no issue as I plan on always having a crop camera.
I suspect that is a matter of opinion and I'm sure you will get many here. I know many folks are fond of the Canon EF-S 18-135 (there is an older version and a more expensive newer version, both with IS). Personally, before I got the full frame 6D, my "walk around" lens for my 7DII was the Canon 24-105 f4 L. Good refurb or used can be had for a reasonable price. (relatively). I also use it with my full frame 6D. On a crop frame camera like the 7DII is is equivalent to about 38mm to 168mm, so not super wide but decent for most walking around town applications. I usually also carried the very nice (and very inexpensive) Canon EF-S 10-18mm in my pocket to give me additional "wide angle" when needed. This is what I used to use and carry as a walk around when the 7DII was my only camera. Now I also have a 6D so I just use the 24-105 and only use the 7DII for shooting sports, birds, etc.

For me it's the 24-105 4.0L on both type bodies.
I see several others have chimed in with the 24-105 L. For what it's worth "L" glass is the "high end" and generally much sharper and better glass than the standard EF or EF-S non-L Canon offerings. That's not to say the non-"L" lenses are bad, just that the "L" lenses are built much better and generally have better image quality.
I used a Tamron 28-75 for several years on my 7d before getting frustrated with its close up wide angle capability.
I now use the 17-55 f2.8 EFS and love it. Rent a 24- 70 or 24-105 for a few days or purchase and return to try.
I use a 24-70 f4L at work on my 7d Mk II with Great results.
For me the Tamron 16 -300 is my traveling/walk around lens we have a very nice dog park that is a 2 mile walk along a river ,through a wooded area and a big open field never know what's going to pop up from flowers to deer I have been very pleased with overall results it can be a little soft in low light at 300mm
It's funny when people talk about a "walk around" lens for the Canon 7D or 7DMii - because I have both cameras - and I can't "walk around" with these beasts- they are so heavy they will ruin your day!! But -- my everyday lens I keep on it is for sure the 24-105 L - no doubt a great match for this camera. I also really like the Tamron 18-270 --I'm always shocked at how good my pictures are with this lens. The newer version is the 16-300 - I'm sure it's awesome too.
But if I'm actually "walking around" I use a Sony RX100 IV

I think I'm Basil's separated at birth twin. I do as he does. Except, the 24-105 stays on my 6d and the 18-135 on my 7d2. But.... if I am actually just walking around, more than often it's the Canon SX60 that I reach for.

Then do some push ups. The rest of us do use these "Heavy" cameras all the time with great pleasure as walk around cameras.
My walk-around lens for my 7dm2 is the Canon 15-85. It effectively gives you about the same range as the 24-105 does on a full frame. The 15-85 is not an L lens but it is well built and performs very well for me.

That's what I use as well for general walk around on my 7D2

Agreed. My 24-105 stays on my 5D MKII, and when I purchased my 7D MKII it came with the 18-135. What a pleasant surprise. The IQ, focusing and IS work wonderful and my images are great. (to me anyway) As for walking around, I recently bought a G3X with an electronic viewfinder and couldn't be happier for a light weight walk around. A great full featured small PowerShot that I find myself using more than my DSLR's.
