Can this lens be used on a D7100? Also is this a good macro lens?
The Tamron Adaptall II 90/2.5 is famous and sought-after. Mounts are interchangeable. There were two models that would focus down to 1:2, and a later model that would go 1:1. They are easier to find than the Vivitar; how they compare I do not know.
Not only will it work but will auto expose in aperture priority. I was able to buy a 58mm Nikon Micro with 1:1 adapter for $28 on eBay - Dave
The Vivitar Series 1 Macro 90mm f/2.5 was designed and manufactured by Tokina. This MANUAL FOCUS lens can take 1:2 magnification close-up photos as a stand-alone lens, and 1:1 mag with designated "Macro Adapter" optical extender, or appropriate extension tubes. The 90mm f/2.5 is considered very sharp, producing a nice natural color and exceptional contrast in photos.

Looking at online reviews, it does seem to be an excellent option for an exceptionally sharp lens at an affordable price. Its even surprisingly sharp at wider apertures, which makes the issue of full manuals not much of an issue. And the bokeh is awesome, so I wonder how many aperture blades it has. Yep, that is a tempting lens.

If that's a AI, then it works on your D7100, It's a very good macro from Vivitar, I do have the Vivitar 100mm f2.8 AIs, another good Vivitar macro lens.
I thought I posted in this thread but it doesn't show... Whatever.... Nikonian has given you the best info. This lens is considered one of two "Cult Classic" lenses from the Vivitar Series One lineage. The other being the 105 mm F2.8 ( which was branded in Vivitar, Kiron, Lester Dine & other brand names). Both are critically sharp manual focus lenses. I own 2 of the Lester Dine branded 105's & one of the Vivitar Series One branded lenses. They are my go to macro lenses. They go to life size without adapters. The Tokina made 90mm goes to 1/2 size by itself & life size with the adapter. It was also produced as a standalone Tokina branded macro lens besides the Vivitar branding (it may have been rebranded with other names, but if so, I don't know whose names). Don't confuse the Vivitar 90mm F2.8 with this Tokina. While sharp, the Tokina is sharper. The F2.8 version was made by Komine for Vivitar & goes to life size on it's own.
