SD Card WiFi and Direct Transfer Speed Comparison Test

I measured the transfer speeds from SD Card to my Mac computer, and then from SD card to an iPad Pro and an iPad Air using both WiFi and direct connections. Below are the results and one of them is very surprising.

The Test: Download 10 images, jpegs, approx 15 MB each, (150 MB total), measure and recorde the time required to complete.
The Card: SanDisk Extreme Plus, 32 GB.
Note: An iPhone stopwatch was used to time the downloads. Delay due to reaction time should cancel out, but reaction time introduced a variance in the numbers, my estimate is possibly as much as a sec of variance.

Results:
SD -> MacBookPro Card Reader to folder: 7.16 seconds

D750 -> iPad Pro using WiFi and Nikon WMU: 1:01.04
Yes. That is correct. Over a minute!

SD -> IPad Air using WiFi and Nikon WMU: 26.33 seconds
Huh? Faster than the iPad Pro?

I couldn't believe it so I repeated the test using the iPad Pro and got the same result as the first time:
D750 - > iPad Pro using WiFi and Nikon WMU: 0:59.12

Finally
SD -> iPad Pro using SD-Lighting adaptor cord download to Photos: 7.94 seconds
Wow that's right up there with the MacBook Pro!

SD -> iPad Air using SD-Lighting adaptor cord download to Photos: 9.01 seconds
Not as fast as the iPad Pro but respectable.

So what's up with the iPad Pro and wireless? My best guess is the problem is that the problem is with the Nikon WMU software. But that is only a guess.

What kind of wifi signal is your router using, and what kind of router? The wifi capabilities of the two iPads are spec'ed identically so it shouldn't matter for comparison, but who knows.

Wireless provided by a 2009 I think, 500 GB Apple Time Capsule, firmware ver 7.6.8.

Retina MacBookPro Early 2013.

I did this test at my home in one location. The same WiFi for both devices and the devices were all in the same place relative to the router, which was nearby and there was a strong WiFi signal. That doesn't explain the big difference between the iPad Pro and iPad Air.

Although I did not time it, the time it takes to transfer images from my Canon 80D to my computer via Wi-Fi is darned slow compared to the USB cable connection. I have clocked internet speeds of 90 Mb/sec (Mega BITS per sec) so it isn't the router, it must be the 80D.
