Here is one about 3 feet away. My early years at photographing hummingbirds, crop sensor and a kit lens so the quality isn't as good but I was very close .........

I think I've maxed out the ability of my equipment, at least for hummingbirds. Problem is the file is to small to print something out and hang on the wall.

If I was to be doing hummingbirds for a living I'd buy a 5Ds and a 400mm lens. That would give me 5X the resolution meaning when I crop heavily there will still be plenty left for a sharp picture.

Wow!! I need to work at learning to do hummer close-ups like that. Here in the East, as you may know, we have only one species of humming bird - not as colorful. Still, a close-up like that would be fantastic. Thanks for posting it.
