Thank you, Mark, the second picture is probably one of my favorite of all time. It was shot using a 40 plus year old Vivitar 135mm prime lens. the lens is a best-kept secret! You can clearly see a fly sitting on the headstone of the front grave. But the reason i took this shot was the fallen flower. to me, it represented the fallen soldiers who never mad it out alive.

Gonna have to cheat a little. Just joined up today. Haven't had a camera for nearly 10 years, but I grabbed a couple out of an old back-up directory. Don't know about the quality of the pics but i enjoyed taking them.

Welcome to the forum, Chauncy! You picked some great shots to start things off, loved the piggyback possums! Thanks for sharing all three with us and thanks for participating in our 'Best of 2016' thread! This has become an annual event that I look forward to very much, with so many amazing images from our UHH members. Hope you'll enjoy your time here, as it's a great place to share your photos and make some new friends.

It's not been an overly productive year, but here's one.

It's that time again--our annual 'Post Your Best' thread.. Christmas is over, the year is fast drawing to a close, and if you're like me, you took a lot of photos. Pick the one you like best from your work over this past year to share with us. Doesn't need to be an award winner, doesn't matter if you've posted it before. It can be any genre, it can be heavily processed, no post work, or anything in between. But let us see what moved you most from 2016, and thanks for contributing!

I'll start with a shot of my favorite Dark Lady, Madame P.

What an amazing set of photographs by all of you. Couldn't decide on one only.
1) Early autumn morning cob webs on our heathers
2) rare photo of a leopard relaxing in a tree on a safari recently in Kruger NP
3) sunset at De Kelders, eastern cape

About as different as they come, but never an easy choice to pick just a single shot, is it? One of the challenges of going over an entire year's work, lol. Glad you chose these to submit to the thread, and thanks for sharing them with us!

"All gave some, some gave all." Thank you for sharing that viewpoint.

That lens is no secret to me! I have the same lens in a Pentax K-mount that I used for decades on both of my ME Super's. That lens shows two things...how far ahead Vivitar was at the time and how quickly they fell behind. It was and still is a great lens. Such a great value for the quality at the time!

Again, thank you for sharing such a powerful photo. Good work my friend.

Great job on all three, wapusk! Best giraffe shot I think I've ever seen, lol! The fuschia is gorgeous and bursting with red, a beauty. Thanks for sharing these with us, and thanks for participating in our 'Best of 2016' thread!

Two beauties, Mom of 2. I'd incline to the second, but I can understand your difficulty in choosing just one! Nice work. Thanks for sharing them with us, and thanks for joining our 'Best of 2016' thread!

I'm getting in on this kind of late (just turned on the pc) This may not be photographically great and after seeing some of the fantastic images this site this may pale in comparison but I was sooooo happy to get to see and photograph this owl. One less for my bucket list. I wasn't expecting to see anything on this day, and did not even have my camera turned on. Had to do a lot of pp. because the original settings were for late evening deer of the day before.

Great job catching your owl, camera nut! No one ever said a shot had to be absolutely perfect to make it a favorite or even a 'best' shot, but this is quite a beauty, so no apologies needed, lol. Thanks for sharing it with us, and thank you for participating in the thread!

Jaime,

Not sure what platform you were shooting with, but...after doing a quick (less than a minute search) search of Google...that lens can be picked up on eBay for $20 + shipping! On a Pentax K-mount. Unbelievable... I shouldn't have looked. How times have changed...
