Ice storm hung around for three days. Visually fabulous. Practical pain in the ass.

an absolutely perfect description of an ice storm. been there! be safe. nice shot. gary
Interesting shot. I'd prefer the background verticals to be vertical and the rest to be a bit sharper, but it does portray ICE!
I like the patterns in the ice. And the colours in the branches are sort and very nice. I'm not impressed by the background to the ice. I know it was what it was, but I think a more interesting background would have made this image a lot stronger.
I prefer Ice to Ice II. Ice has more of an image Ice II is kind of a gray amorphous mass.

Hi, Pilot6,
I hadn't seen your post before I posted my similar "3-Day Power Outage- The Silver Lining".
How did we miss each other that day?
We obviously had similar "takes" on our similar, respective scenes/themes.
Best regards,
Dave

I should have recalled that this is the critique section, and and that you, as did I, hope your posted image receive a more serious critique than I rendered.
Impact is strong and the result of the contrast within all ramifications of the subject.
Focus and exposure are appropriate for the ice-clad branches/twigs. The background wood ( boards of a structure?) are merely in soft focus and are a distraction that use of a more shallow DOF could have avoided.
The collective subject is, effectively, based on a mostly random pattern of triangles, ramifications, and intersections that compel the eye to travel throughout the image but to stay within it. The background parallel boards are deemed a distraction because they draw the eye needlessly to a depth beyond the subject. It is recognized that the ordered parallel arrangement of the boards are in counterpoint to the relative randomness of the subject and may, by some, be construed positive and balancing in effect.
Impact: 4
Tech. 3.5
Comp.: 3.0
10.5/15
A strongly impactful image.

Hi Dave-
I thought I was seeing double (but vastly improved) when yours appeared, and I'm truly humbled by your critique of my snapshots. Many thanks. bob
Dave I really like this one for the colors are rich and beautiful. The texture of the ice over the leaves is nicely exposed for. I find it difficult to get a good close up photo of ice on leaves.
