I notice you said "shipping to US". Is this a grey market lens? When did you buy it? I assume it is an EF or EF-S mount correct?
No, it is a US lens. I am in CA. The lens has been serviced by Canon in Irvine CA. I have the original documentation that I will send along with the original box. The only thing missing is the UPS label that was sent in for warranty activation. I have had several bad experiences shipping outside the CONUS.

I bought it 2.5 years ago from a friend who had been given the lens as a gift. He already had the same lens so I bought it new but it had been registered in his name. It had never been used before I bought it. It is an L lens with an EF mount. I have used it on a 70d, a 7dii, and a 5diii. I am selling it because I purchased a 500mm f4.0 that I now use as my long lens. Birds are my "thing" and the 400 has been my primary telephoto for the last 2+ years. It is super light so is easy to carry. It is not IS, hence the light weight.

Do you have good results using it handheld?
The usual rules apply. Fast shutter speeds, 1/400 or faster helps. My wife used this lens on a monopod with good results. No question, fast shutter speeds, good technique, and if possible, a tripod help. I obtained the enclosed picture on a very cloudy day using a light-weght travel tripod.
I have used this lens for several years handheld with a 5D MKIII and shooting at 1/400 and above handheld is no problem. I rarely pack a tripod with this lens. Good price too!
