I've been looking for a 14-15mm full frame wide angle lens for landscape and night photography. I bought the Rokinon 14mm lens and found it had too much distortion, so I returned it. I've waiting for the Irix 15mm to be available in the US. This lens appears to be very good optically and also unlike other lenses of this kind does accept filters. Currently this Swiss made lens is only available in Europe. Does anyone know if and when it will be available here? I'd order it from England if I thought they would offer service under warranty.

Maybe you should be looking at the Laowa ( Venus) 12mm f2.8 - http://petapixel.com/2016/08/26/review-taking-zero-distortion-lowla-12mm-f2-8-spin/

The 15mm Zeiss is also nice if you can afford it.

What kind of distortion? Barrel?

Are you aware of PTLens - he writes profiles to correct that sort of distortion. He has a huge library.

http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/index.html

He has a profile for both Rokinons - the camera and the cine lens.

For the record, I think the Samyang/Rokinon/Bower lens is sharper than my $2000 Nikkor 14-24.

I have the Samyang 14mm f2.8 and the new Laowa 12mm f2.8; both manual focus. I find them to be very sharp. Here is an image I made with the 14.

Nikon made a 14mm 2.8 D AF lens, it is very good and is much lighter to carry around than the 14-24 mm 2.8. That said I own the 14-24 and will never part with it. It is sharper at any focal length than a fixed lens at the same focal length. Plus the versatility of a zoom. Filters can be pricey because you should go to the Lee Filter System to get good results. But the IQ and sharpness, you cannot and will not beat it with a fixed focal length lens. Good luck in your quest.

I've used the Tokina 16-28mm for night photography, and I'm pleased with it. I did a weekend course a couple of years ago, and the guy I was working with had the Nikon lens, while I had the Tokina. They looked the same and seemed to produce the same results - big difference in price, though.

I doubt you will find a distortion free 15mm, but if you keep it level it's not all that bad (perhaps you already know this). If you would consider a zoom check out this Tamron on Photozone, it't not a bad lens and it would let you zoom in when you don't need the full wide 15mm.

Good luck finding a lens and Merry Christmas!

For sure and he gets the added benefit of a tax write-off.

By "accident" I discovered that my 12-24 DX Nikon lens can be used on a full frame without vignetting starting at 16mm. In practical terms I have a lens that behaves with full frame as a 16-24mm f4.
I do not do night photography of the sky on a regular basis but when I used the 12-24 f4 wide open for about 20 seconds I got very good images. Remember to cover the viewfinder because a flashlight or any other light could change the exposure if it hit the viewfinder.

Take a good look at the Tamron 15-30 f2.8. I just bought one and have found it to be worthy of all the praise it is receiving. Most of the reviews say it is sharper wide open than the Nikon 14-24, which is legendary for it's sharpness. Relatively inexpensive as well at $1200.
