Thank you for the gratuitous lecture on US history. I am sure that everyone of us is surprised by your revelation of the victors of the various world wars.

However, you miss the point entirely. You think overspending on the military makes us safer? You OK with the blatant corruption in the military procurement process? You think its ok when procurement is driven, not by military necessity but by the value of the contracts allocated by Congressional districts?

A bloated military, designed for threats that no longer exist (F-22 Raptor comes to mind) makes us less safe.

I think you are right about what we need on traditional military hardware. The world's new battle is with muslim terrorists. That battle needs to taken care of differently.

if we had to do what we did in ww2 [ build military equipment ] , i dont think we could do it today . no car plans , no steel industries , we would have to have 3rd world countries to do it . letting our steel industries move over sea is not good for our national security !

If every country decided to get rid of all of our weapons of war, we would live in peace.
For a month, tops.
Then someone would decide to take over a government, somewhere, and go after another (probably bordering) country, and we'd be back at it again.
With what, you ask?
Remember, entire wars were fought long before any gunpowder, steel, iron, bronze or even copper was used.

Then let's have a POTUS that will get rid of the bloated military so we are not paying $200.00 for a hammer or $2000.00 for a toilet seat. Let's not send India our manufacturing requirements for fighter aircraft when those same aircraft, if really needed and wanted by our military leaders, can be built right here in America.

Yet our government "can't afford" healthcare.

Jerry we also can't afford to give senior citizens a cost of living raise either. We also can't seem to afford to give our military a raise, we can't afford to really fix our veteran health care system. Yet we seem to always find money to expand the welfare system and send money to foreign governments who want to kill Americans. I think that is why Trump won the election. It is time we start building up America rather than building up 3rd world countries.

That's one of the reasons why Trump was elected president. He has already stated that the bloated military contracts will come to an end. There won't be a revolving door between the military industrial complex and the private contractors that fuels the cost overruns and waste that is inherent in the defense budget. But we still need to fund our military to defend this country to protect your right to speak your mind.

The pertinet question to those figures is what did each country get for its $$. India got how many nuclear powered aircraft carriers for their 51B? Or was it new turbans for the Punjab Regiment Sikhs.

A previous president (Republican) warned us about the Military-Industrial Complex around 60 years ago, did anybody listen?

Killing before we can be killed is what keeps us alive as individuals. Enough individuals staying alive keeps the species alive. War is THE most profitable business. Far from going extinct, we will probably spread to the stars, and spend a trillion dollars per week on future wars. That is what we get for letting business, and military, types run for office. When we let those who benefit from war decide whether, or not, to go to war, and let them run our wars, we will have many expensive wars. Such is life. Live it, or die.

I am well educated also, and Chilean dollars or not, there is nothing wrong with spending money on defense and self preservation (think 9-11, ISIS, terrorisim). No one is going to protect our freedom except us. You sound like a "never Trumper" and probably hated Ronald Reagan. Strong military and national defense are what give you the right to speak out.

Again, Timberlane, you need to READ CAREFULLY. That's Chilean PESOS, not Chilean dollars. And I made no mention
of Trumper or Reagan or our military. None whatsoever. And it's the First Amendment to the United States Constitution
that gives me the RIGHT to speak out, not the military.

I'm more worried about the Political-Media complex.

Additional questions include what percent of GDP each country spends and what % of the total dollars is on pay, food, and medical.

Ike only warned us about the MIPC AFTER he helped to install it. That was like a bank robber telling us to replace the vault after he has blown it open, and emptied it. A big help...not.

Presidents do not have the power to make such changes. Congress does. Good luck getting hundreds of those who own stock in armaments companies to vote against wars which will make them richer.
