I like the color version as well. The different colors of the spoke and wheel to me indicates the individual layers of the aging process. The B and W version is certainly interesting but to me it looses this characteristic....Another old mans opinion.

I like the subtle colors. Almost like a pastel painting. Well done.

In general, I prefer color over black and white, but in this situation, I like the monochrome more. (Better go take my temperature!)

The b/w has more contrast which I like. If you tweaked the contrast in the color print, I think I would like it more.

Something that doesn't have anything to do with your photographic or post-processing skills is the little specks in the upper left side of your photo. I'm guessing that they are small insects or something actually in the scene. Small but distracting, I would spend a few minutes in pp eliminating at least the larger of them.

I do like both versions of your wagon wheel, either one would look great in an old wooden frame hung on a prominent wall.

Welcome to the forum. I prefer the first one with color. Has more character vs blah looking B & W.

The color version is better but you need to increase the saturation, primarily on the wheel, and reduce the highlights if possible in all the little white flowers. They're distracting. Maybe even try to give some more blur to the background. Make that wheel really pop.

To me the b&w is more striking and gives the feel of something old!

I to like the B & W because it shows considerable tonal gradations whereas the color photo lacks interest for me. Simple objects are good candidates for
B & W.

It's out of focus, period.

I took this shot earlier this year with my Nikon D600 while on vacation in Panama. I like it but can't decide which is more impactful - color or B&W. Unfortunately, I shot in JPEG instead of RAW (somewhat newbie to RAW). I've included the original files so the meta data is available. The photos have minimal post-processing (also a newbie in LR).

I just joined the forum recently and would appreciate any and all opinions (and even some sarcasm I see on the forum!) on:
B&W vs color
Composition
Bokeh
even....is it a good photo?
etc.

Thanks!

I much prefer your color version.

Beautiful shot and the two compositions are nice in their own version. Thanks for posting them.

Roy, I'm new too, but for my taste, the color version tells more of a story about this old wagon and wheel. The pinkish color makes me think of how colorful the wagon once might have been, while the white mold growing on it suggests that it may have sat idle for some time. The graying wood tells of years of use and neglect. See also the rusted hub nut. It's almost a picture of a life cycle. I like your color shot.

I'm partial to B&W but in this case I will go with the color. Color bring out the character.

I'd go with the color photo. It shows more of the actual condition of the wheel. Plus the background with the flowers is more enhanced in color while the BW version it blends in with the wheel.

Because of the background, I prefer the color shot; if there was an old barn behind the black & white shot leaning against it then, I would go with it.
