I agree 100% with all of the above. The younger generations think that they alone invented/discovered peace, compassion, and re-cycling, when they are the most
wasteful generations EVER.

Thanks usnpilot for a very good post. I an a 69 year old senior and veteran but I sometimes wonder if we just let this happen with the younger generations. I feel like we failed to teach them better letting too many things interfere with teaching. However my grown children are turning out pretty good but still seem to miss a few things in life that I would like for them to have.

Too true! And I'll add this: So many younger people today, who claim to have some semblance of religion, go to their places of worship wearing cutoff shorts, t-shirts and flip flops, or worse. What sort of god do they worship and (dis)respect? OK, I'm jumping down from the soapbox! Your turn-

A man in a suit and tie and a woman decked out in her finest for church only covers the the body. Church and interaction between god is about the heart underneath. Old saying 'don't judge a book by its cover'. Christ accepted humanity especially the poor as they are; and went among the dirty, sick, the raggedly dressed. The hordes that surrounded him seemed to not be the rich or well dressed. This is the god they worship and respect.

I'm not trying to dress you down (sorry for the pun) but to help you have a better insight or perspective.

My pastor wrote a good book called, "The Blue Jeans Gospel." His philosophy is that living The Gospel is hard enough, we shouldn't make it any harder on folks to come to Jesus.

I was taught it was a sign of respect. Something else that is disappearing.

First of all, it does not say that in the bible. So many people attribute their own personal biases to "somewhere in the bible, it says." David, danced naked when the arc of the covenant was recovered. Jeremiah went three years naked and shoeless. St. Frances also dressed in minimal clothing. (Don't believe the pictures that prudish more modern people paint. Remember that Jesus was not blond and blue eyes despite the Salman's Head of Christ

BTW. The early church baptized new members with everyone taking their clothes off, so as to present themselves naked before the lord. (It's true)

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not try to blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT senior citizens who took:

The melody out of music,

The pride out of appearance,

The courtesy out of driving,

The romance out of love,

The commitment out of marriage,

The responsibility out of parenthood,

The togetherness out of the family,

The learning out of education,

The service out of patriotism,

The Golden Rule from rulers,

The nativity scene out of cities,

The civility out of behavior,

The refinement out of language,

The dedication out of employment,

The prudence out of spending,

The ambition out of achievement or

God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others!

And, we DO understand the meaning of patriotism, and remember those who have fought and died for our country.

Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts, as they stand at attention as the American or Canadian Flag passes by in a parade!

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party..... even if it lasts until 8 p.m.

I'm very good at opening childproof caps….. with a hammer.

I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time, because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.

I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

The problem is most seniors today are boomers who protested Nam, spit on returning soldiers, had free love with no responsibility, had scraggly long maggot infested hair and wore raggedy clothes disrespected the US flag. They took over college campuses, fought for abortion at any time up to birth. Thought Che was wonderful and Marx was a genius and taught all these wonderful things to their children and grandchildren.

Interesting. My aunt was hauled in the back of a pickup truck to the cemetery for burial. We were dressed casually, no offense but that was the way she lived spending her time volunteering to help God's children in some real hell holes in SA. They had plenty of money but used it to help others but didn't associate with sanctimonious religions but did it on their own with no fanfare. I am sure God did not condemn them for lack of going to church.

How can one show respect to the dead. The dead are gone and not wanting for this life. All the pompous show is for the living. All the flowers are really to help hide the smell of the decomposing body. All the dressing up in black or darken colors, how in the beginning the whispering, eventually breaking into normal to loud voices, and sometimes the feast afterwards/alcohol is for the living. Then again you have all types of funeral services. Cremation, then the celebration of life afterwards when the person isn't even there. Jewish type, Indian type, Eskimo style is all show for the living.

When was the last time you went to your grandparents grave and cleaned up to show respect, let alone your great-grandparents.

With all due respect, your opinion is important to you; but when it is your turn go in front of God he will not say I appreciated looking through your eyes of how others behaved. You are responsible for only yourself.

God doesn't judge one for their earthly possessions. Old saying 'you can't take it with you'. Didn't Jesus say 'give onto Caesar what is Caesar's and give onto God what is God's' while going through his tribulation for mankind? Clothing belongs to Caesar, the heart belongs to God.

My father said back in the 60's that all men with long hair are sissy. I turned to him and said 'Show me a picture of G. Washington with short hair, show me a picture of Einstein without his long curly Afro style hair, but show me a picture of any kind of Jesus with short hair. You are calling all these people because of their looks sissies, even your God. He never said anything about long hair after that.

With all due respect, you view is that of a person who didn't think it through. Your trying to give Caesar property to God, which he doesn't want or need. You have a right to your dress code but not of others.

They are worshiping the God of the Universe who is far more interested in what is in their heart than what they are wearing. While I don't wear blue jeans to church, I would run fast from a church that appears to have an attitude about those who do.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV) But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
