I am in the market for a new Nikon lens (18-140), or possibly a new camera kit. I have looked at Nikon, some of the major online outlets (B&H, Adorama, etc.), local stores, and the many eBay sellers. I don't want to spend any more than necessary for either the lenses or camera, but am concerned about getting a product that I am paying for. The price differences are incomprehensible.

Are there any online vendors, particularly eBay vendors, that anyone can recommend to be trust worthy?

What do i need to be wary of?

Thanks for your help.

Randy,
I have had several great experiences dealing with Cameta Camera. They sell on their website, but they also do list on Ebay. I have purchased both new and factory refurbs with good results.

Even the one time I got a dud, they replaced it immediately and without question. It turned out, when they put it on the bench that it was the operator (me) who was probably the dud. LOL

Your best prices will be used from ebay. I haven't bought a new camera or lens in the past 5 years. But I've bought 4 used Nikon dslrs and about a dozen lenses on ebay. The 4 cameras ranged from $80 to $400, and the lenses ranged from $30 to $220. The trick to using ebay is to buy from top rated sellers who sell what you are looking for. Read the reviews, positive and negative on the seller. If you are buying a camera or lens see what others have rated their camera and lens buying experience from the seller. I ususally buy from those with a 100% rating, but if they are 99%+ and I can read the negative reviews were trivial complaints, I will still use them.
Second point is read the description carefully. It should say the camera or lens is in excellent working condition, free of any fungus, or problems that are not documented on the listing. Once they state there's no problems (other than what they have listed) and the item works correctly, then Paypal will refund your money and postage both ways if there's a difference in what you got, and what was advertised on the listing. If there is a problem, contact the seller, then put in a claim with Paypal and let them handle it. Sometimes the seller will balk or try to get you to pay for postage, etc. But Paypal will refund every penny if the item is not as advertised in the listing. They just take it from the seller's account and credit yours. Naturally stay away from items listed as looking good, but haven't tested it, etc. I have bought dozens of items this way on ebay and had three instances where the items were not as advertised, and got full refunds from Paypal. Just had to drop off the item at the Post Office with Paypal's prepaid mailer. A day or two after the USPS tracking showed the item was received by the seller, Paypal processed the refund.

Have purchased many thousands of dollars of equipment and cameras from Cameta and never had any issue. I prefer them over B&H and Adorama as I have purchased from them also. Cameta just to me seems to be more helpful with knowledge...

I second the endorsement of Amazon vendor Cameta. Their prices and customer service is oustanding.
