So glad you enjoyed, Donna, and thank you for your feedback on the pp. Regarding settings, using shutter priority, the T3i seems to want to make a bigger adjustment with the aperture than ISO (same/opposite when I use aperture priority).

I haven't noticed if it's worse when I use exposure compensation as I did here. I probably should have set both shutter speed and aperture and used auto ISO (that's what I do often), but I was afraid I'd get some birds over-exposed more than I could fix. I was dealing with a lot of different lighting situations and quick shots. Might have to think further on how best to handle that in future.

Thanks again!

Thanks for taking the time to help me puzzle it out, Donna. I'm thinking there is a drawback to shooting on sunny days when you're dealing with shadows in one frame and bright sun in the next

Can't see anything I would do as an improvement...love the composition of #2, with the focus on the most colorful part of the bird!!...and the uniqueness of #1 with the grape in it's beak!!...good set!!!

Very good set Linda, I like the way you got the background out of focus, it makes you think how a bird can swallow a berry that size. I too can take loads of shots and only get a few keepers Thank goodness for digital that is what I say..

Thanks so much, Bob. Out of 225 shot, only about 4 showed both the tail tip yellow and those dabs of red on the wings. As for gulping that fruit, my gosh - I don't know why they don't fall off the branches choking to death; it appears to be a mighty tight fit for many

I appreciate your taking the time to offer feedback!

Thanks so much, Val. I'm pleased you enjoyed! Yes, there is no reason not to fill the card when you're presented with a photo op such as this one

Canon T3i, Canon EF 70-300 mm lens, in raw. Some cropping. 1/500 sec, which wasn't enough at times + wide aperture (f/5.6) which also wasn't enough at times, so please don't follow my lead if you read the exif

1. Big gulp!

Wow! These are great, Linda! Love each one.

Thank you, Ellie. I'm so glad you enjoyed! I wasn't going to "bother" shooting them this year since I have so many from past 3 years

Hi Linda,
Nice shots.
I have the same camera and lens and have tried to shoot some of the local birds and have not come close to these.
Did you have the what did you have the focus set on - central point? and was it set at one shot or AI Servo? Did you set it to auto white balance? And finally what did you set the metering mode to?
