I am wanting to frame a few photos. I would like to use a white wood or plastic glass frame, with matting. I have been looking at several sizes and think i would to to use prints that are 12 x 16 or 14 x 16 in size. So the matt cutout size would need to be similar. These would be framed for my own home use or to give to family members. I have had a difficult time finding these types of frames available, and for a reasonable price. Obviously i could get someone to custom make frames but that is pretty expensive. This would probably be the size i would want to use for all future photos as well. Has anyone found a good supplier for this size matted frames or should i resolve myself to a smaller size...Thanks y"all...

One day I was following my DW through IKEA and discovered a huge selection of frames. I "standardized" on a size that works well with my 13x19 printer. The frames come with matt and glass. The ones I use are about $15, complete. The hole in the matt is not an exact match for my printer, so I've made a "preset" in Lightroom that works. I can print and frame in about 20 minutes. I've never seen a larger "value priced" selection of frames anywhere.

If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, they have a wide range of frames for a fair price.

Last time I wanted to frame a 24" X 36" print, I went to Michael's, a hobby store chain. They had quite a nice selection and I found them quite affordable. Not as nice as a custom frame, but they work. Their custom framing is very expensive.

You have received a number of good suggestions for retail chain stores. I would add Aaron Brothers to that list.

You have received a num

The print sizes you mention are not standard. This means that you will have to cut the mat yourself, or pay($$) to have it cut to order. Frame size is easier to deal with because the dimensions do not have to be the same proportions as the print. It looks fine to have more mat on the sides than the top and bottom, or more on top and bottom than on the sides. Once you have the prints, it will be easier to choose a frame. And there are lots of frame sizes available that would fit. Add Walmart to your list of places to check out. They have some nice frames that are inexpensive, in a variety of materials, styles, as well as colors including white.

I tend to print my photos without regard to their dimensions, so I cut my own mats. In addition to buying frames new, I also look at yard sales and estate sales. Sometimes I find frames in odd sizes, in good shape, with glass. Often they were custom made to fit a particular picture!

The best deal on frames that I have found is IKEA. I have many 20 X 30 prints framed and hanging. I am not sure about the sizes available, but there is a large selection to choose from.

"DW" is a common abbreviation on the internet for "Dear Wife". Sometimes "Darned Wife". Maybe "Demented Wife". There are other words that start with a "D" that can fit. The opposite is "DH" for "Delightful Husband".

IKEA is a huge store system famous for it's self assembled furniture. There are about 300 stores in 40 countries. The stores are so big, there is a lunch stop half way through that is famous for Swedish Meatballs. My DW always buys her DH lunch there. There are only 40 stores in the USA. The biggest is in Berlin.

You may want to consider cutting your own mats. If you buy mats to fit your pictures at a frame shop, by the time you pay for several, you can buy a moderately priced cutter. Then you can buy mat board at a hobby shop and custom cut anything you desire to compliment your prints. I found it to be much cheaper this way.

I agree - it won't take too many custom cut mats to pay for a mat cutter. Recently I've been researching on-line sources for mats. An art supply store/hobby shop will charge around $22 for a 32x40 acid-free mat board. That's enough for 4 mats at 16x20. Online, if I buy multiple sheets, the per sheet price is discounted! Still have to pay shipping, which adds to the price again, so this is why I am still thinking about it. (I found a place with the same kind my local store carries, in a wide selection of colors.)
