I've been fortunate to have traveled to Africa, and will head back this fall. These are my favorites. Would appreciate any comments and suggestions regarding
a - subject matter
b - composition
c - is it an interesting image, and
d - is it "framable?"

Yes, I think I took very good shots too, which is why I posted them. But the feedback I've received locally hasn't been near as positive as yours, so thanks for the kind words. I really want to get better at this and there are so many really good photographers at UH I hoped to get "scrutinized" feedback

How big a telephoto/zoom is the minimal requirement?
What countries did you visit?

Two Canon 50Ds one with a Tamron 18-270 the other with a rented Canon 100-400. A good way to destroy a camera is to change lens during the dry season (I learned the hard way) which I why I brought along a rented extra 50d on our second trip. I'll never change a lens in Africa again.

Shots are from Botswana or Kenya, but we visited Zimbabwe & S. Africa as well. If it were my first trip, I would go to Botswana or Kenya. Some of the kindest warmest people I've ever met in Botswana, but I thought the game viewing was better in Kenya.

Don't wait too long. At the turn of the century there were an estimated 100,000 lions in Africa. Today there are less than 20,000 and probably as few as 5,000 big males.

One of the most incredible experiences of my life.

If/when you go, bring extra of everything. Once in the bush that's it. Two battery chargers, plenty of compact flash cards, and empty bean bag for stabilization (you can fill it with sand while you're there) and take A LOT of pictures.
