How to transfer pictures from dSLR to Samsung tablet

Does any one have any experience on how to transfer pictures from a Nikon D7000 to a Samsung tablet. I am planning a one month trip and do not want to bring a laptop but still want to back up and store the pictures I take.
I shoot in JPEG mode so transferring RAW files is not an issue.

Thanks for any suggestions on how to travel light and still back up and save the pictures I take.

It kind of depends on the tablet, if it has usb otg then it should be possible to either connect a card reader or the camera to a usb port, there are cables which convert the micro usb port to a standard usb port. Its possible to use a micro sd card in a camera with an adapter and later use that card in the tablet there are wireless options most cities would have some kind of internet cafe.

The main problem i would find would be a lack of storage space on the tablet. This might be supplemented with a usb based portable hard drive and uploading of files to a number of services. If you really want to travel light then multiple sd cards might be worth while.

I have done what you are asking about. I won't be surprised if others say that there's an easier way but here is what I do: I upload the images from my D90 to Picasa in my computer. I make sure I "Eject" the removable disc in "My Computer" before removal so as to prevent corrupting the camera's SD card. I select the images now located in Picasa that I want to put on my Samsung tablet and export them to the micro SD card used in my Samsung tablet. Again, I make sure that I "eject" the removable disc before taking the micro out of the card reader to prevent corrupted files. I place the micro SD in the tablet. Turn on the tablet and the images should be there in the gallery. Maybe others know a way to get them on the tablet without first uploading into a computer.

I have an OTG adapter for the tablet.

If you have the usb lead for your camera it should connect to the otg adapter be recognized as a device and you should be able to access the files on the card with a file manager app. Make sure its the right cable for your camera you might have something too similar from another camera.

Reasonable people disagree on whether it is best to read memory from the camera or to remove the memory and attach it to the computer somehow. This handy little device {here, I show it with an SD card inserted}, which turns a USB port into an SD reader, resides in the bag with my tablet, along with an external disk drive, and I use them to backup from my cameras each evening.

I use one of these:

https://www.ravpower.com/rp-wd03-filehub-6000mah-power-bank-portable-wireless-router.html

It allows me to copy the contents of a card to a USB flash drive. I bring (2) 256 gb flash drives - primary and secondary backup. I shoot raw with a D800, and my files are 45mb on average. No problems. If you think you need more memory, bring another pair of sticks.

It's also a mini-router, a bridge, a 6000mah external battery for a cellphone, and you can use a wireless device to monitor and manage the downloads to the USB devices. I use my iPhone or Samsung tablet. The only downside is that file transfers are done wirelessly and can take a while.

I bought mine a year ago. The current version seems to be slightly upgraded, not sure if they changed to USB 3, but even with USB 2 it was tolerable. I tried the wireless Western Digital external drive, and it was horrible.

When out and about I transfer my photos automatically from my camera to my phone/tablet as they are taken. I can do this by using an EyeFi SD card: http://www.eyefi.com/ in my camera so I can view them immediately as they are taken. Eyefi cards are slightly more expensive but they are worth every penny and you can leave the SD card in the camera and avoid potential corruption when removing and inserting them into a reader etc. I have used the OTG method which is another alternative especially when you eventually want to load them onto your PC/laptop.
I have recently started to use a photo transfer app: https://www.photosync-app.com/ which will transfer your photo from any device to another other device including PC's so long they are all on the same wifi network. There is another app which does the same thing but uses an adhoc locally generated wifi signal.

There are several similar apps but I have found that "Photosync" works best for me.

The Samsung tablets have a slot for a microsd card so you should be able to have plenty of memory space. The connection for inputing can be either directly to the Samsung USB port from your D7000 usb port or you can plug an sdcard reader into the Samsung USB port and go that way. There may be an app to do this more easily, but I always like to do it the hard way. So I have used ES File Explorer app to move things around. The MyFiles app will also work the same way.

I did exactly this with my Samsung Tab 3 on a road trip about a year ago, but then chose to use an ultralight weight laptop for my European trip. It wasn't much more weight and had a lot more capability.

Either way, I put a Kindle version of the Darrell Young book on the tablet. Proved very useful.
