Lens Suggestions for Canon Ti1

Looking for a better zoom than the one that came in the "KIT" when I first bought the camera, Canon Ti1. Looking for something in the 300+ zoom but I have not kept up on technology so not even sure what to look for. Also, don't have a lot of money. ... under $500. Canon? Sigma? or ??

Thanks,
Bud

Consider the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4 - 5.6 IS STM. On APS-C (T1) camera, it will give you a focal length of 88-400mm. Refurbished on sales for $130.00.

I had this lens and used it for a long time on my Canon T5. The results were super, a whole lot better than they should have been.

My $.02, Greg

Check out Tamron either 18 ~ 270mm or 16 ~ 300mm depending on your buget.
It is reasonable weight, has a biiiig zoom range and returns good quality pictures.

The latest Tamron 16-300 is well regarded.

I am happy with the choices I've made: quality and price considered for my T1i/500d.

50mm f/1.8 prime-- Canon ~ $100 or Yongnuo (Chinese) $32--$50.

85mm f/1.8 prime-- Opteka ~ $100 (with MANUAL only).

28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II -- Canon ~ $160 (rare -- must have MACRO written on lens and made in JAPAN or Tiawan - it is discontinued but can be found on Ebay).

Consider inexpensive EXTENSION TUBES (12, 20, 36mm) for ~ $20)

This equipment will get you started and let you know what DSLR is all about without much money invested.

Lots of people don't like it but have a Canon 75-300, it's very reasonable in price and does an excellent job. Look on Amazon or B&H. If you're hard on cameras perhaps this lens won't work for you. If you're like me, I treat mine like a newborn, then it should work well.

I had a Canon T1i and put a Tamron 18-270 on it. When I sold the T1i, I moved the lens to my 60D which I use as my all purpose lens on that camera. You can probably get this lens used for less than $400.

Jimmy, that's the one I have now: EF 75-300 4-5.6 IV. Focus response time is slow and noisey for me and it doesn't seem to focus tight when zoom is maxed out. I dunno... perhaps I got bad one.

Thanks for your input.

Baygolf... sounds too good to be true! LOL. The lens I want to replace is my Canon EF 75-300 IV. I will definitely check out the one you suggested. Thanks so much for your input!

Hey Travelin' Bud. My 75-300 does a very nice job at full zoom focus. I've done some stuff at full zoom, 1/1000 in bright sun and got some excellent, very sharp photos. I now shoot a t3i. I bought it mainly for the external audio in for video, which I do quite a bit of. I love this camera.

No experience with Bowen teleconverters -- I have experience with Albinar 2x telephoto lens and Zeikos wide angle fisheye-macro lens also with Viltrox (Newer) hollow extension tubes which fits between the camera body and the lens to produce macro photos.

I hope you have a computer and can look up all this…..
