My experience is that with an expensive brand, you pay for the name first, then for the strap.
I have an Olympus E-5 camera, not a particularly light-weight, that I bought an OP/TECH Bino/Cam Harness for. Now about 6 years old, there is no detectable wear on the strap. It is comfortable to wear (divides weight of camera over both shoulders). I'd recommend this, or any other OP/TECH strap to anyone - from my personal experience, as well as my brother's experience (his OP/TECH strap is even older than mine, but also: No detectable wear).

True, I wasn't saying that Black Rapid was the only one. Its the quality that counts and there are some very good inexpensive brands and some very bad expensive brands. The OP specifically mentioned Rapid something and I was referring to Black Rapid as to what they were looking at. I'm sure that somewhere out there, someone else has named an "no so good" product Rapid or Black to take advantage of Black Rapid's name recognition. It happens all the time but I wanted to point him/her toward the better of the Rapids. My old Nikon strap works pretty good but the Black Rapid is more comfortable with the big lenses on.

I have been doing photography for many years and tried many straps and slings. The one I found through this forum about a year ago is by far the best, it is called Bosstrap, and you buy it on line. I bought the standard cross-body one, the wider one. It has no padding, but is wide and holds my hefty Canon 5D and lens with no effort at all. The think I like about this is that it hooks into the left strap lug on the camera, not in the tripod socket. Since I use a tripod occasionally, I can mount the camera to the tripod while it is still secure to me, and then either slip the strap off myself, or disattach it quickly from the camera. On line, you can see Bosstrap has several connection methods including a quick release. One more thing, I use the most simple cross-body strap, but they have others that have additional features. I liked it so much that I bought a second one for bakup, and it takes hardly any room in the camera case because there is no padding. Good luck with your selection.

Good point. That is the one thing that I don't like about the my Black Rapid is that it uses the tripod socket rather than the strap lugs. They have newer straps that use the lugs so you need to shop carefully.

I like the Fastfire strap available at Amazon for about $50. It is similar to the Black Rapid strap, but it attaches to the neck strap lug, rather than to the tripod mount. I think this arrangement is more secure and doesn't interfere with using a tripod at all.

I use a QUICK STRAP it can be used over either shoulder. It fastens to the tripod mount and also can be fastened to a tripod without removing
the strap

Check out the "Peak Design" line of Quality Camera Straps, they are pricey, but you may also find them on Ebay and Amazon as used or just open packages. I have a Nikon D3300 and am strongly considering the Peak Design Slide lite model strap. After research and inquiries I have made, I look forward to purchasing this strap in the near future.

I am a fan of my recently acquired Op Tech Dual Harness (X-Long) as I do not want to carry a camera using the tripod socket. I also have a Black Rapid strap that I purchased at a show when they first came out but, after much thought, decided I did not like that idea so I no longer use it. My dual strap allows me to carry a second camera on my body if desired. Straps, along with camera bags, are a very personal decision. Best of luck.

I have a Really Right Stuff plate on the bottom of my camera and it has another 1/4-20 threaded hole I can attach the BlackRapid Sport to. I feel the plate spreads the load to the base of the camera and doesn't put as much load on the tripod socket. I might not trust the tripod socket on a less expensive camera as much as I do on my camera. Everyone has to find their own happy place with regard to carrying their gear. There are lots of good products to choose from though.

Best,

The clasp is the weak point on this type of strap; the "screw" between the clasp and the strap has a way of failing. I replaced the whole mechanism with the strong key ring (I don't know the technical term for it) in the base plate and a carabiner on the strap.

I bought MOVO Shoulder strap. 18.00 ON Amazon. I'm very happy with it. it is comfortable and as I'm a big guy, it is adjustable enough for me to let the camera hang as low as I want without maxing it out. I think its 46" in length adjusted all the way out.

Let me add a bit more about the Bosstrap that I mentioned in my prior post. I'm right handed so I wear it cross-body, and adjust it so that the camera is at my right side by my right hand. Again, the connector goes into the left side camera strap lug. I can cradle the camera/lens in my right hand as I walk. I can wear it under a light jacket, or over it. There is a slide, so when you want to take a photo, you lift the camera to eye level and the slide goes along the strap, which does not move. It is so great, and innovative, I urge all following this topic to check it out on their web site. They have other versions, but I have the simple cross-body strap, in the larger width to spread the load on my shoulder.
