I was doing some studio shots with a friend of a young girl with her dance costumes. Her mom showed us some pics of her dancing at a show she took with her Samsung phone. They were so good I thought about throwing away my D750! haha I saw a review of the iPhone 7+ and it has a zoom camera and the next model will have a variable zoom. Not to mention all the lens attachments that area around for phones. Nikon and Canon's camera sales have dropped about 28% for the small compact cameras because of the phones and Nikon is laying off 2,000 people. Like the saying goes: The best camera you have is the one you have with you.

I have a 8mp camera Nexus 5 smartphone and I took some landscape images with my phone, then had 2 of them enlarged to 8x10 prints, I was quite impressed with the image quality. Now they offer much higher mp in the newer smartphones, so any enlargements should even be more impressive.

Yes, smartphone cameras are producing very good results, even though most users aren't real photographers - like us. I seldom use mine for pictures because I don't like the format - how I have to hold it, keeping my fingers away from the lens, zooming, activating the shutter, etc. When I do use it, I'm always impressed by the results. All the pictures I take with it go directly online to Google Photos.

Yes they are amazing, have been shot down many times on the Hog for bragging on them.
Just go to the Apple Store look at the wonderful photos on the computers. They are breath taking.
All taken with the I phone.

My true camera love is my Nikon D-810 but the iPhone will be my constant companion.

Ok I give you that. However hasn't that always been the case "when viewed on a computer".

Don't get me wrong I love my d7000 D7200 Canon G10, but I love my S5. Not good for action shots though.

I was able to print up to 14 x 17, but not 13 x 19. Quality looked good. Only tried it one time.

At 84, and having some neuropathy, I have difficulty holding the phone in camera position while trying to keep my fingers from blocking the lens and then fire the shutter without movement. And without dropping the darn thing!
Here is my solution, using the phone clamp from an Apple Gorrilla Pod Pro and a Barska pistol grip from B&H. The two parts screw together easily and provide a strong solid grip that is easy to maneuver. Not unreasonably bulky. Phone is iPhone 7+ in leather case.

BTW. Love this forum and all of you who post helpful info.

No nothing like that. My first digital to test the waters with was a Oly c750, in 2003. My only point to my reply was that if on computer was the only way I planned to use it, I could have saved thousands. That was the most noise free, tack sharp camera and lens I've ever owned ;) wasn't till you started cropping, printing larger than 5x7 or using it night that ya ran into problems. Funny enuf, I gave that to my dad when I bought a *IstDS. He Still uses it regularly, 13 yrs later

Smarty phone cameras have surely come a long way and I enjoy using mine. As I've mentioned before in other posts, I have a friend who has mastered the art of iphone photography and sells her work. It hangs on the walls of our state capital. Beautiful images.

I've attached a photo I recently took using my iphone with a tiny bit of editing in LR4. I'm pleased with it and look forward to printing this off (waiting for ink) to hang in our office. As a hospice chaplain, I'm beginning to use my iphone to record the images of the hands of our hospice patience.
