Just recently, when attempting to open some of my DNG files I get either one or the other following error messages depending if I am opening with LR or PS. "File seems to be unsupported or damaged." or "Could not complete document because it is not the right kind of document." These are files that I have previously opened, processed then saved either as tiff or jpeg.
I would appreciate any information as to how this happens, and can these files be made functional again.
I had that happen once to a group of images from one particular trip. The files look fine and seem to have the right properties but they cannot be opened. It turns out that somehow they did get damaged. I never knew how, why, or when!
Rename the bad one and load a backup copy?

It's a longshot but try changing the file extension on one of them. Start with .dng and then .tiff and then .jpg.
Try opening with each extension....

Sometimes you can get a bad read from the card, I would try downloading from the card again, maybe try a different card reader, possibly leave the card in the camera and use the usb lead.
Can you see the images on the card in camera? might have been a bad conversion to dng maybe to the wrong version.
I would go back to the card and start again
I tried your suggestion and it worked!!!!! Thanks for your help.
