I am backing up files to external hard drive. Most of my Raw files are in DNG format but some are in the camera's native Raw format. When I try to open an image file from the external drive in the camera's native Raw format I get a DXO pop up asking me if I want to buy DXO. (Some weeks ago I did a trial of DXO but didn't purchase and it has long expired). This does not happen with the same image files on my computer- just on the external hard drive. I am unable to get to my image file on the external drive- I deleted the DXO download file but that didn't help. Any ideas how to get around this- other than calling DXO? Of course I will call DXO if that is the solution. Thanks.
It seems that DXO changed your settings so that it is the default program to open your photos from the external drive.
Right click on one of those photos and then click on "open with" and then "choose default program". You'll probably need to then click on "browse" to find your postprocessing software of choice.
It gets stranger- the native Raw files from the Sony and Panasonic cameras are affected but the native Pentax files open as they should from the external hard drive.

I see that DXO is the default when I right click on the photo- I am able to open it with PS CC this way but can't find where to set PS CC as default program- that option doesn't come up

Many programs include that pop-up asking you to upgrade. Unless the program - and that feature - is thoroughly removed the pop-up will remain. You may need help from DXO
With Windows 10, setting the default isn't as easy as it used to be, unfortunately.
The directions given are useless; they are either skipping steps or have directed one to the wrong spot.

I found that to be true too. My screen was not the same as was shown.
I deleted the download and deleted the App. It didn't make any difference deleting the download. Haven't tried again since deleting the App. I'm just going to contact DXO.
I find that now I can right click on the image and open with PS CC. It's not as seamless as it should be (and was) but it is a solution for now. Thanks to all that responded.
Here's how to do it - the new default works on both my internal and external drives.
Right click (or control left click) on one of your raw photos (this works for any extension not just the raw extension, but must be done for each extension). Then click on "get info". Scroll down & you'll see "Open with" then click on the drop down menu to find the app you want to make as default. Then click on "change all" which is just below. And finally "continue".
Let us know whether this works for you - I learned from your question - thanks.

That was the fix! As you said it has to be done for each raw extension. And the key is to make sure that the "change all" is clicked. I didn't do that the first couple of times and it worked for only one image but I re read your instructions again and with the "change all" clicked it worked for all of those images with that extension. Really appreciate your help and persistence :)
