I had pretty much given up on this photo that I took about 3 years ago in rural Minnesota. The focus was really poor and I had tried lots of effects to no avail. And yet I knew I would never get another photo like this again. I recently had submitted it to this forum out of frustration to see if anyone had any good ideas. I got lots of good suggestions. Tonight it suddenly dawned on me what I should do. Here's what I ended up with. Critique welcome.

I love the edit! Very artistic. Almost dreamlike! Kudos!
To me, the orginal is by far the best...
In the "improved" version, again to me, the only improvement was the color of the rust on the top of the grain cyclo.... The green grass dissapeared and every aspect of the barn was "flushed" away.....
Some things just do not need "improving".... Of course that just my opinion.......
Clouds are too "happy" for the sad main element.
I like the background.. it provides a nice "finish" to the image..
I will agree that you may have lost some contrast and color in the main subject, but if we hadn't seen the original, we would never know..
#1 is the best, #2 is good

Thank you all for your comments. I do value your opinions. I probably should have told you more about what I was going for. I thought the grass was too happy in the original so I desaturated the foreground to improve that and to give it a bit of an old photo look. I left a softer focus to also convey old photo look. The background was lots more cheery until I desaturated it for the first edit and I was hesitant to desat anymore because I thought a little more color would be better. I'll show you two more edits. Both are sharpened a bit. I moved the bit of blue sky over so there is less of it and did two degrees of desat to background. The first is almost identical to my original edit but less blue sky. There wasn't more desat to go unless I turned the sky virtually gray. The second is desated all the way to gray clouds. I think that might be a bit too gloomy or boring. Please tell me what you think.

mommy115, I know you've spent a long time on this one....it was worth every minute. Love the final result!
I love what you did to restore the color. Keep it up.
i like the last version a lot!
personally, i think they are all great shots
i love seeing old abandoned/collapsed buildings.
first one looks like a bright but cloudy summer day
the faded grass and clouds in the rest make me think of late fall with an oncoming storm, especially the last one.

Good for you and your persistance !
I like the artist liscence that you have taken, and your end
result does indeed bare the fruit of all your labor !
I like the last one the best. The sky looks more dreery and not so happy.

I second his emotion ;)
The last one is nicely balanced... sky seems to really bring out the scene without going overboard.
You really did a great job of fixing this!
