Why do so many people think the site is only accessible via the daily digest?

I see at least a topic a week from someone who thinks they can't navigate UHH without the daily newsletter they receive via email. Can someone help me understand this, please?

My advice is to ignore the newsletter and learn the shortcuts at the top of the screen.

Home - shows everything UHH has to offer
Photography Digest - an ad for UHH
Search - check this before asking questions
User List - to see who's who
Help - the Help Menu

My Profile - make changes to your account
Private Messages - (Inbox/Sent)
Logout (usernames)

Create New Topic - to make new posts
Active Topics - posts you are actively involved in
Watched Topics - posts you are watching
Newest Topics - new/unread posts
My Topics - a sort of your posts

Newest Pictures - newest Gallery posts
Bookmarks - save interesting posts
Buddy List - create a list of friends
My Posts - a breakdown of your posts
My Pages - make your own pages
Topic Log - recent posts you've looked at

There are shortcuts at the bottom of the screen too.

Home - same as Home above
Latest Digest - Ugly Hedgehog forum digest
Back to Top - returns to the top of the screen
All Sections - shows everything UHH has to offer

As a fellow hogger who posted just 2 weeks back about losing my daily digest I assure you that we are not all lost without it. In my, and presumably many other cases, we are very busy people that do not have the luxury of perusing the entire site on a daily basis. (not saying you are, just a generalized statement) That daily digest gives us a smattering of the latest news and keeps us in the game. When I check my email every morning it is a nice quick link from the regular grind over to the photo world. The digest gives us a nice collection of the latest posts in the categories we are interested in without the need to hash over all the posts. In my case the previous problem was because of my email provider and nothing to do with UHH. That error has been rectified and I now enjoy a synopsis of the days posts.

As a fellow hogger who posted just 2 weeks back ab... (show quote)

It's OK to say I do have the luxury of spending hours here daily, big-guy; my stats are hard to hide

You give a very thoughtful viewpoint; my only counter is that the topics in the digest are selected for you, so they may or may not be what you would be most interested in.

It's unfortunate, also, that the Gallery section of the digest (maybe the others too; I've just never checked) has the most commented-on topics at the top, which leads to more comments from those who only use the digest.

I've been fortunate to receive many comments to most of my photo topics, but I know that's because often my topics are so "visible" in the digest. I guess it's the way of any forum, though, where a comment bumps the topic to the top of the list, which in turns generates more comments and so forth.

I'd love to see a way that talented newbies and others who aren't well known get the same "exposure" as it were.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Some how I get the digest under two e-mail addresses. I haven't done anything but delete it for the last year or so, I used to look to see if any of my shots made the list. Now I can tell by checking how many views I get.

Can you opt out of the digest by clicking an unsubscribe at the bottom of the email? I got rid of the pesky thing years ago and only receive notifications when I have a pm.

My digest daily email went away a few days ago. What to do to recover? My UHH Search on missing... produces a bunch of USA political stuff, LoL.

A post on this topic said, "...anytime." Actually, if you are on Pacific Time, FEW read your posts. This is a major, low-hanging opportunity for UHH to improve, for hogs in many time zones, if not for twenty-three zones; a case of GMT-ism?? Too bad that few will see this post from the Pacific time zone.

Go to "my profile" then scroll to notification. Re-check the box if it isn't checked already. If you or your email provider inadvertently marks the digest as spam, you'll stop receiving. You have to re-sign, as it were.

Regarding time zones, You have 2,300 views of http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-398722-1.html

I live in Washington State (yeah, misleading user name; sorry). I usually post around 5 - 6 a.m. My last Gallery topic has received over 2,000 views. Of course how many of those are repeaters following the comments and/or search engine spiders (is that still a thing?). And how many of those wouldn't have even seen if I hadn't made it to the digest...

I once did a Google search for images on kerosene orchard heaters and one of my own UHH topics came up in the search result Same has happened when I post a question to Google that someone has asked on UHH: their own topic shows up in the search results, even if was posted just a few hours previously. So Google visits us here very often!

I could, but deleting is not a big hassle. One day it might have something worthwhile. I guess I should delete one, leave the one on the almost unused e-mail address as a check to show it still works.
