Need a flash unit for a Nikon 7000. Suggestions?

I have a SB 700 that worked so well on my d7000, that l bought a second one to use OFF camera. I still use both wheather l am using my d7000, or my newer d7200. They are great and function perfectually with Nikons Creative Lighting system.

I have several older Nikon SB800's, they will work great, I get them off ebay, mint for a good price, make sure battery chamber is clean. These units are reliable and hold up to a lot of use.

Personally, I use the Nikon SB910, the SB800 and other Nikon flashes as they are designed to be able to be used by the D7000 and other Nikon DSLR's as either on camera (using the flash shoe) or off camera remote using the camera's built in strobe to activate the "off camera" strobes and correctly expose the image and control the strobes.

There are other brands Yongnuo strobes that have many but not all of the capabilities of the Nikon strobes.

Yongnuo flash units are very good. Are they better than the Nikon. They are not. Are they less expensive and do the job as required. Yes. I own a an 8 year Sunpak flash unit, and bought this year a new Yongnuo. Both flash units cost less than $300. All are operational today.

With the low noise modern cameras have why limit yourself to ISO 200? Or even 400?

Set to M and then adjust shutter speed and aperture. Nikon SB flash will then fill if you have it set properly.

I sure remember those ASA 400 Tri-X days - spending hours in my basement lab developing film with Microdol-X. The good ole days.
I will set ISO to 400 and some trial and error. I just need to read up on how to properly use a flash unit. I obviously don't know what I am doing.

Luv my SB700. Use my D7200 to trigger it remotely.
For light weight, I also have and enjoy my SB400. It really extends the range and has bounce! Got mine on eBay for $200.00, in box almost new.

+1...I use this on my 7100 and it works GREAT. Much cheaper than a Nikon and mine has held up well. I did much research before my purchase.

I was in a similar position and bought a used Nikon SB-26 speedlight on ebay for $86. The SB26 has manual and auto modes and can be triggered as a remote by the NikonD7000 internal flash. I even bought a bracket which holds the flash to the side of the camera and lets it be triggered by the in camera flash. I believe the SB26 has all the power and controls I need.

If you want the automatic (TTL) then Nikon line can't be beat--except in price. Since I shoot mainly manual flash, Yongnuo makes good flashes.
A couple other brands with iTTL that I've looked at and tried are Mieke and Godox. The Godox is pretty pricy compared to other non-Nikon flashes, but solidly built and good technology.

Has anyone else tried the Altura brand flash that I have recommended? For the price and capabilities, you can't go wrong. I also have an SB800 and feel comfortable with the Altura product.

Hi, I posted the original question and after some research bought the Altura flash you recommended. $60 with free shipping from Amazon. Works perfectly on my D7000. I am sure that there are units out there that may have additional functions, but I am primarily using it indoors for family shots and often on a tripod. Thank you for the recommendation. I think the "Ugly" is a great place to learn and explore the full range of photography. I really appreciate everyone's opinions and input. I read the postings everyday. Thanx again,
