Sorry to see them go, they are/were my all time favorite camera store. Bought four Nikons from them over the years. Also won one of their promotions, a Canon 3ti.

Amazon net shipping costs exceeded 5 Billion dollars in 2015. Somebody pays!

The ones who are making out the best are companies like UPS, Fedex, etc. You buy online and it has to be shipped to you. You find out it wasn't really what you were expecting and you ship it back. Don't be fooled by "free shipping". You pay one way or the other. I like going to the store and examining the product. When it comes to photography stores it is extremely unfortunate they are becoming extinct.

There are more stories on this forum regarding closures of camera stores. Many that have been open for decades. The online ordering of cameras and gear have affected these stores, plus large stores like Best Buy. I have bought two cameras at Best Buy and two at B&H in past years. One being a gift. I suppose I could have gone to a local camera store. I did not.

We are lucky in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to have "National Camera Exchange". They are not Comparable to B&H but they don't pretend to be either. I try to buy locally if I can. My Nikon 1 system I had to buy online but my DSLR's come from National Camera Exchange.

Having had my own small business at one time I have a deep appreciation for those 4 sinking words - "Going Out of Business". Yes it's a shame.

We all can thank on line buying and smart phones for that.

Problem with the big box stores - or, at least, Best Buy, is that they tend to limit their product lines. I've a D7000, bought about two weeks before the D7100 was released. At the time I got the camera, there were many accessories for the D7000 available at Best Buy. Last Christmas, I rec'd a Best Buy gift card. Went in hoping to find a battery, or perhaps a replacement plastic back screen cover. No joy. They had NOTHING for the D7000, except for a lens or two and one SpeedLight. Nice items, but not if you're trying to cash in a $100 gift card.

Problem with ALL local stores vs. online. Local merchants will not offer as wide a selection of items - any kind of items - or at prices comparable to online. Few local stores will deliver my purchase to my home.

As to Amazon and shipping, PRIME members get free shipping. Of course, this works IF you buy enough items during the course of a year for the shipping you'd pay for otherwise to off-set the $99 annual membership fee.

You could have bought a Nikon battery for a D7100. The 7000, 7100, & 7200 all use the same battery.

You did not state they were out of EN-EL 15 batteries, you stated they did not have any accessories or batteries.
I merely was pointing out that the battery for your D7000 was the same as the D7100, so if the hook was empty by the D7000 area.......
Well hopefully you got it now.
I have a D7000 an a D7200

I'd think that you'd understand that if Best Buy dint have an EN-EL15 for my D7000, then they obviously dint have one to fit any other Nikon camera. And there aren't two separate areas for batteries for each camera model. ALL the batteries in are the same display, and all are identified by BATTERY NAME, not camera model. As in, Best Buy had ZERO batteries for ANY camera using EN-EL15's. No, I dint mention the battery model name specifically. I assumed that most who read these threads understood that the EN-EL15 fits multiple models.

Either you don't get it, or you're trolling. Either way, I'm done with you. You reply to this, you're talking to yourself.

I prefer brick and mortar stores when buying many things, including cameras or equipment. I prefer a camera store over a chain because of the knowledge of the people working there. Fortunately, I live in a large metropolitan area and have several camera stores to choose from.

Problem is, brick & mortar stores are a showroom for people buying online. People see a camera online, then go to a store and handle the camera, ask questions about it, then, buy it online.

I live in St. Louis where we have an outstanding camera store. Established long ago, and they keep up with the latest in camera bodies, lenses, and accessories. Every time I go into the store there are always three or more other customers there. And of all ages too. I've becomes friends with the owner who shared the obvious facts with me. So long as they can still sell products, they will be in business. Simple formula. So, whatever city you reside in, consider buying your cameras, lenses, and accessories in your local store.

Oh, I should add. A good friend of mine hinted to her husband that she would like a particular L series lens for her birthday. She pointed him to one of my favorite stores, Amazon. I looked at it too. BUT, I encouraged him to print out the ad, and then take it to the store to see if they could match it. They did. I don't think you can beat that deal in any way.

YES!

Local stores (other than LARGE "chain" stores that is) not only offer completive prices and good, if not better, service - it is just a good feeling I get with the trading at a local business. When I travel (and I travel a LOT) on my "Photo-Collecting Tours" within the United States - and I happen to see a camera store, I stop by and check it out. I must confess that when driving here in Saint Louis on Manchester road, my Jeep seems to just "all by itself" turn into Schiller's Camera. (We here - are blessed with TWO (2) local camera stores). I do prefer Schiller's over the "other one". And sometimes for really no reason at all I just hang out there for 30 or 45 minutes - If for not other reason = to be among my own kind :-)

I know what you are saying. My Jeep knows a back way into Camera Mart in Pontiac, MI, but just learned yesterday they closed.
