Most likely you will get screwed one way or another doing business with both 42nd st photo or Abe's of Maine. Both have questionable business tactics and don't back up their sales

Well I stand corrected, I guess Canon doesn't enforce their suggested prices. Of course any establishment can sell for less, as long as the maker is not aware of it.

One way they can get around the controlled price is if you buy anything else along with the main purchase, a memory card, a spare battery, a lens filter, etc. then they can "reduce or eliminate the price" of the main item

B&H is great, but don't forget Adorama.

42nd St Photo pings off the name of the long closed and good reputation place named 47nd St Photo. Some of the old timers here can tell when they closed. 42nd St is like a dose of clap.

In. My experience, B&H is the only place that I would ,without hesitation, recommend . Since dealing with them for a number of years with excellant results, why go elsewhere? Not to say that there aren't other places that are also fabulous, But so many have evidently had similar dealings with B&H. Again I say, Why go elsewhere? Listen to fellow hogs, and make "SAFE-BETS". I've used B&H for years. Also happily dealt with SAMY'S and ROBERTS.

I have used B&H, Adorama, Roberts (Indianapolis), Schiller's (St. Louis) and Creve Coeur Camera (St. Louis) with very good luck. I would stick with these first.

Just checked the online store of Panasonic USA. That model is shown as NOT AVAILABLE. I would be cautious ordering it elsewhere. You might be walking into a bait and switch game. Once they get your credit card number or other payment they could play the game while your money is earning in their account.

Kept my fingers crossed simply because I did get that "deal" -- Your wrong --- I paid 3k for a camera that's currently listed for 3,500 (check out B&H) -- Only Authorized Dealers are forced to sell by Canon at the same price nation wide --- Remember -- We still do have a Free Market -- Granted one that you as a consumer take chances with as I did --- My 5DS is fully registered on-line (did it myself 3 weeks ago) with Canon Of America with it's full 1yr long warranty -- It's not a gray market item
Kept my fingers crossed simply because I did get t... (show quote)

Could you share any experience with 42nd St photo in NY? They seem to be the only one who has the Panasonic fz1000 in stock.

Adorama has a Product Demo for sale at $800, and B&H has an Open Box for sale. $700. Call before they are sold. Panasonic fz1000.

I have personally over the years dealt with B & H, Adorama, KEH Samy's Camera and Beach Camera. I can recommend all as being very good. In the used department I have personally dealt with B & H and KEH and both have been above expectations on what I purchased form them.

Just to be redundant: I don't care if they were the only ones on the planet. If you buy from them, prepare to be up-sold and lied to. At least that was my experience. Try Cameta Camera, Adorama, B&H or even Joe's Diner, before considering 42nd St.

Have been dealing with Cameta Camera for years, their customer service is outstanding. Have never had an issue with them. Before purchasing my last DSLR I researched a lot of different companies B&H included. It appeared to me most cameras, lenses etc. of good quality are pretty much fair traded items. If using Canon gear you have the option of using Canon USA. If the price seems to good (by hundreds) it's probably a gray market product. 47th Street had such a deal. I was very unsure because of that...My last purchase was with Cameta for a camera and a new Sigma lens. No problems and I love them both.
