Ever wonder what happens when your prize 400mm f2.8 with a protective filter and protective lens hood meets a football player.

Hood and filter did a great job protecting the front of the lens proving their extreme value in such situations.

There is an embedded link showing the action.

I shot from the sideline and the end zone only once. I am glad I never had to find out what would happen.

A very expensive lens indeed. But $10,500 is nothing compared to the safety of the player. College players desire to be pros one day. I'm sure this won't happen again with this Oklahoma coach's football team. This article is 2 years old now.

I have only been aware of two incidents of players colliding with photographers at games I have photographed. At football game a photographer was hit behind the end zone and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. At a basketball game a photographer was sitting n the floor in the the designated area and a baseball player somehow landed on him, it looked like he was just sitting on his lap while they were both watching the game. No injuries.

I also have not heard of injuries due to cameras on the sidelines. If there are it is rare. Thank you for your comment.
