Posting this shot of Point Cabrillo shot at sunrise with my iphone, using HDR Pro, two shots stitched with AutoStitch and edited in Snapseed.
For you sharpness freaks, I know its not sharp...hand held in the wind with a iphone. I took some shots with my big boy camera also, but still on the road.
I stayed at this lighthouse for two nights...great photo ops.
Point Cabillo at sunrise
I love lighthouses in particular. I had a cousin who lived in one for many years. More than that, I really enjoy what is "said" in this shot. The landscape is beautiful and the composition (to me) very meaningful with the placement of the lighthouse in a primary "rule of thirds" position but small enough to be almost an afterthought. Very interesting! Man's creations are very small compared to the scope of all that has been made.
Is it "Cabrillo" or "Cabillo"? And where is it?
Cabrillo, is north of San Francisco on the Pacific coast. About five miles north of Mendecino. The light house keepers house was restored several years ago by the state of California and can now be rented as a vacation rental. Four bedrooms, sleeps eight. Very well appointed.

Light houses are great places. On the drive up to Cabrillo I stopped at Point Bonita, Point Reyes, and Point Arena. All very scenic and an easy drive north of San Francisco if you are ever in this area. I'm a Houstonian so the rugged coast line and cool air where extra special.
I've got literally hundreds of light house pictures from both coasts as well as the great lakes.

I asked because we also have a Cabrillo here with two lighthouses, a historic one that doesn't work and a newer one that does. Your picture didn't look anything like ours. Yet Cabrillo is such a part of the history of California that I figured it was somewhere in California.
Nice pictures. Where is "the other side". By the way post any light house pictures you want. Love them.
My bible is the web site lighthousefriends.com

I couldn't find another Point Cabrillo light in Caluf when I looked on lighthousefriends.com. I use that web site when planning any trip involving a coast line. La Mesa is in the San Diego area, right?

Try Cabrillo National Monument.
The lighthouses are at the "point" of the Point Loma Peninsula. Many people call it Point Cabrillo but it's not.
I just looked. They are listed at "Old Point Loma" and "New Point Loma."
By the way, I'm a Native Texan. Born in Kingsville, south of Corpus Christi, graduated from Texas A&M, and lived in Houston from 1977-1983 over at Gessner and Westheimer.
Nice seeing some other lighthouses,...very interesting and well done.
I agree,..theres something about them that conveys a unique loneliness, usually in a spectacular local.
Will keep watching for more.
