Buy a Apple Mac and for get about Virus.....

or if using Windows use Microsoft Security Essentials (free) and Malwarebytes (free) and superantispyware (free)...

Please don't waste your money on any anti-Virus Software....using these and Firewall and one should be good to go....

Mac had one small problem with a "java Script type virus", as I recall it was Flashback Trojan Horse in Sept 2011 that was involved with installation of Adobe Flash and was crafted in with a Java applet.

to my knowledge this has been resolved, I have an iMac, and a couple of Macbook pro's in our household and no Virus problems during any of this time...

Keep all Virus, Malware and Fire Walls up to date and scan often.

Best of luck.

tom

Hello, On My Computer I have AVG 2012, it says it will expire in another week or so, I always thought this was a Free Program, but I guess not, are there any other Free Programs to help maintain our computers from virus or malware, or spyware, that can be installed for Free, need some advice, Thanks, George Im on Firefox, and have Spybot.

Computer security professionals have consistently rated Microsoft Security Essentials in the top ten for effectiveness and ease of use. It is free and works very well. Using two or more anti-virus programs at the same time would seem a good way to go but in fact, just slows down your surfing and opening files on your machine. Some posters mention Malwarebytes and Avast. Both are excellent programs and have free versions, however you have to purchase them to get their full value. The free vesions are bare bones and not as good as Microsofts freebie.
Making your machine bug free simply requires three basic steps: a good anti-virus, keep everything updated to the most recent version, and no porn. (I have a seperate machine encased in rubber for that!)

Hello Sarge, After reading a few things about AVG, it said if I were going to install another program and Microsoft does look real good (Thanks), it mentioned not to have 2 programs doing the same thing, do you agree, if so I will delete AVG, and install Microsoft.

OK, first of all, don't "delete" AVG. You must uninstall it and any program you want to remove from your computer. But I'm sure you knew that and were just using he wrong terminology.

Second, check the website of your Internet provider. Some providers will supply brand name protection packages for free like Norton or CA.
If not, use the Microsoft protection as already suggested.
I've run more than one program without problem, but only because I installed new ones without uninstalling or disabling the older ones.

Indi, made an excellent point never delta a program, in fact I never use the windows remove for programs.

Download the free "Revo uninstall" program and use it to remove programs from your machine, it will clean program data from register and all associated files along with the basic of the program you are removing..

Hope this helps, know you get hundreds of opines, that's what life is about sharing our likes and dislikes..makes the world tick...

have a great day

I've been running the subscription version of AVG Antivirus as well as it's associated program called "AVG PC-Tuneup" for 6 years without a hitch. It runs fine with Firewalls and Microsoft's virus blockers. AVAST and AVG also has a 2 year subscription fee instead of the one year like other antivirus software and a reduced charge for a 2 machine license. I pay only $80 every 2 years for all my machines and updates are downloaded automatically. Also their customer service is excellent and they speak english without a 7-11 dialect or accent. LOL. I highly recommend AVG and it's products.

A computer programmer told me to delete all anti-virus of my computer, go directly to Mirosoft Security Essentials and nothing else would be needed. MSE continually updates, also, it scans your files and previous downloads so nothing can seek in. He stated that new virus can com in as bits and pieces and assemble them selves after they get on your hard drive. If you have more than one anti-virus on your computer they will battle over contol and a virus can come in anyway.
He also recommended Glary Utilities to keep your register healthy.

If Microsoft programmers were so good, then how do they release all those bugs and back doors in their programming? They have yet to release any program that's HACKPROOFS. And all those MS updates that keep come in are a pain in the rear end when they halt your work and need automatic reboot to be initialized. Hogwash.

Let me say this.....It was not a Microsoft programmer whom I was talking with. Since I have install the aformentioned program, NOTHING has got on my computer.

If you have a problem with my opinion/advise, that is your problem. This is supposed to be a friendly forum. I would apprciate comments remaining respectful and polite. Remember, "Do unto others and you would have them do unto you.

Obviously you know very little about programming, firstly programs are written by teams, each person working on a seperate feature and then in the end it is all brought together to form a complete program. There are occasional bugs, the back door you refer to will always exist, thats part of programming. If your not a hacker why worry about the back door, one has to look for them to find them. The updates you bitch about are nothing more than tune-ups, there to keep the programming operating properly. If your having to stop and reboot as you say then your machine is not set up correctly And I agree with BetterPHpro, it was not necessary to be as rude as you were.

The biggest threat to PC computers is the user. Viruses very rarely just "show-up" on your computer. Most of the time, they are invited in. It's our behavior that needs to be updated.
