Ok then, as I said, I am still very new to this. To be quite honest most of my photos are going to be of people places and events including some basic sporting (I coach a boys soccer team). I feel like wide landscape style photography would really be something I would utilise. As I mentioned before I assume there would not only be 1 lens i could use. I suppose this is Ok because I can see myself getting multiple lenses one day. At least one to start with would be good though. Hope this helps.

A&M,

Take a look at the 15-85mm EF-S USM. You might want to consider this if your initial needs are coaching & landscapes. The 35mm equivalent with the 1.6x crop factor is 24mm-136mm. This will give you plenty of wide angle for landscapes & the playing field & still allow some moderate telephoto for close-ups of individual players near the line. I have the 10-22mm on my 50D & I love it but it may be too wide for your uses.

The 15-85 EF-S isn't cheap at ~$734.00 USD, but Sigma or Tamron might offer offsets at a lower price. Both of these manufactures produce good glass.

Hope this helps!

PD

I am not familiar with Canon glass, but with my Little Nikon 3100 I use 18-55vr- 55-200vr and 70-300vr for light weight and decent range. At reasonable cost.

Nice camera, but my focus is one something small enough to fit in my shirt pocket but good enough to have some reasonable features. So far I'm considering the canon Elph 320 @ $249.00, the Samsung ST 76 @ $129.00, and the Panasonic Lumix TS 20 @ $119.00. Any comments on these three or comparable models?

You might want an extra memory card too. Otherwise, sounds good. Have fun!
