Sorry, your reply is wrong, you lose exactly 1.4 stops with it, just like you lose 2 stops with a 2X and 3 stops with a 3X.
Bill you are wrong here. A 1.4x TC gives 40% increase in lens focal length at the cost of
ONE stop of light.
To believe you would mean a 1x TC (no TC at all) would cost one stop and that is impossible. Please research TC's anywhere you like to see the fallacy of your remark.
Barring loss from the extra glass, a 1.4x extender lowers 1 f/stop, a 2x lowers 2 f/stops, and a 3x lowers slightly more than 3 f/stops (~3.17 stops - 3 stops would mean 1/8 the amount of light, it is slightly more because only 1/9 the amount of light is passing through).

will a Tamron 150-600 be compatible with a Nikon brand 1.7 tele convertor? I know that Nikon does not list it, but they are not too friendly with 3rd party products.
You'll be hard-pressed to find
any camera manufacturer dumb enough to recommend their teleconverters with an off-brand lens!

Even if it were to work, how would you hold it steady?
