Lots of posters have had that idea since I first recommended it. Can't beat them.
What I do is take a few pictures manually in order to set the exposure the way I like it....ISO, shutter speed (should be as slow as possible) and f-ratio. Once I am happy with the exposure, I hook up the lightening detector and let it go. You may have to adjust the sensitivity. I may get a few false triggers, but "film is cheap". For night shots, I would also set exposure times, but I'm told that once you get the flash, you close the exposure.
I shot this from my back yard in Hereford, AZ which is about 90 miles SE from Tucson. Shot with my D70 in manual mode. 30 Sec. at f/5.6. We moved to Nevada several years ago and I really do miss the monsoon.
