Installing updates

I keep getting a message to say that updates have not been installed on my Mac desktop, everytime I try to install them it goes through all the long process of updating to Sierra then nothing happens and it is not installed. I have tried quitting everything, turning everything off and then on, is anyone else having any of these update issues and can they help please.

At first when I was trying to update everything just froze and I had to turn off from the main switch just to get back into the Mac.

Thank you HOGS.

If the computer works fine why worry?
Just say No to update and see what happens.

Take it to your closest Apple store. They will help you. Make an appointment online before you go, as they are usually very busy.

Same thing happened to me. I did a second full install of Sierra and everything started working. The first install was right after Apple released it. I think the install servers got a bit overwhelmed.

If your Mac is too old it then it may not be able to be upgraded to Sierra. Also, Sierra take about 2gb of ram just for the operating system. You need to check out compatibility and whether your ram is sufficient. If you use Photoshop then you'll need at least 8gb of ram with Sierra, otherwise it will run very slowly.

Check online for your Apple support phone number. They are generally very helpful.

Over the phone, Apple will only help if your device is still under factory guarantee or if you have an Apple Care subscription.

In the Apple store, they will usually help you without asking when you bought it or if you have Apple Care.

Not so, my iMac is 6 years old and they helped me last week after installing Sierra. They were able to identify my serial number & hence it's age. They probably spent over an hour trying to help me & there was no charge.

Open Applications >Utilities>Disk Utilities. Select your HD and run Repair Permissions. Then try a clean download and instal of Siera. After the instal run Repair Permissions again. You do know that Lightroom 5.7 and older versions of Photoshop and Elements don't play well with Siera, right?
Upgrade your Adobe software before the Siera install.

I thought that was only a Windows problem too. I'm sitting here right now watching my wife's new laptop download 246 overdue updates after I found the update reset tool for Windows 7.
