Well, I'm the opposite - use every few years. (Last time was in 2012, I think, for the Peace Corps anniversary!) I can't believe the technology hasn't exponentially transformed. Will stick with what I have, as long as it's still going! Really appreciate your comments. Saved a couple hundred dollars.

There is much more "technology" in their "better" models (700, 750, 800 and 850).

Have the 550 & has performed very well as a scanner.

I have tons of negatives still in my darkroom which hasn't been used for several years. An Epson 600 scan a negative well enough for me to reprint on my computer and get an image as good as my original darkroom print?

Have used the V500 a number of times. Good on 35mm, not so good on 120 roll film. Film curvature was an issue. Cured it at one time by liquid scanning. Found the stock film carriers pretty useless. Switched to the aftermarket film masks from Betterscanning.com. Reasonably priced solution for flatter film scans, both on 35mm and medium format.

Always used the Epson software. Could not see the effort of trying to post process the scan and then again the scanned file. Get the scan done. work on it later.

I am new to the Epson V600, coming from a Canon that melted its power supply. The Epson is light years (no pun intended) ahead of Canon and other scanners I have used, either at home or in my office. Resolution is very good and the versatility and ease of scanning negatives and slides is a huge plus. I am in the process of digitizing every decent film photo I have taken over the last 35 years and actually enjoy doing it. P>S> I am scanning in 48 bit color mode and the results are very gratifying. I got mine new for $198 plus sales tax in Idaho.
