What is the safest way to take a picture of the Venus Transit that happens on the 5th. I was planning on using a #11 welding shade, would this be enough so I can frame the picture and not harm my eyes

I believe a # 14 is the correct welding shade you want

Hi from East Coast New Zealand. We are having major celebrations here this week as this is where CApt Cook landed after his trip to Tahiti to view the Transit of Venus! We have all got special glasses and I am supposing a pair of these taped across my lens might allow me to photograph this once-in-a-lifetime extraordinary opportunity. Am a bit nervous about wrecking my own eyes let alone the sensor in my camera after reading about the high incidence of often permanent damage to eyes caused by solar viewing so you need stronger than #11 and I think at least #14 welding glasses or similar and something for your own eyes. Good luck with the weather. 5th where you are, and the 6th here for us!

I just used my NDx8 filter on my 100-400mm lens, and it worked great

I was shooting DSLR video of the ingress of Venus when a jet crossed the sun!
