I have two old ones. Both bought used on eBay and one of them at least 20 years old, 10 when i bought it.
One I use when golfing and the other when I'm out with my camera.
Highly recommended!

On hot days I use to dip the hat in water for a minute or so, gives a great cooling effect!
Edit: Oops, missed that mcveed already said that... :-)

After looking at lots of options, to include bush hats from Costco and the "Crusher" from Duluth Trading, and looking at lot of online reviews, I have ordered a hat from a company called "Tilley". The model is the LTM8. Anyone have experience with Tilley hats?

Hi,

My family and I have lots of experience with Tilley hats . We have quite a number of them , they are great and offer lots of variety, some of them are crushable, which is good when travelling . The hidden velcro pocket in the hats is also useful for storing some local currency , just in case . My wife has a condition that means she must not be exposed to direct sunlight very much and that is what started us on these hats as they have good sunblock ability and there are some wide brim varieties. As you know your purchase insures you against the theft of your hat. I bought one and my son saw it , tried it on and I have never seen it since . I reported the theft to Tilley but they did not accept the claim, can't understand why. Wish you well with your hat.

The Tilley hat is expensive and worth every penny. I've had mine for 5 or 6 years. I've gotten it dirty and very sweaty on many occasions.
Throw it in the washer and it's like new.

Before I bought the Tilley I went through numerous, lesser hats that ended up in the trash after a year or two of hard use.......none of them ever survived a washing machine.

BTW
That's my Tilley hat in the picture.

I own 3 of them, including the full mesh crown. Yes, it is quite a bit cooler than the original T3. These are working hats for me. I used to go through other broad brimmed hats annually. Then once I got one of these, I got a few different ones for different working weather. I wear them all day and throw them in the laundry with the rest of my work clothes every week. Wash them often and they'll look like new for years. Make sure you size them correctly and you'll own this for years.

The best of the best. Hand made in Canada. I have the LTM6-great fit and comfort. Enjoy shooting and hiking in your new Tilley!

My friend found a Tilly floating in the bay while he was out fishing.
Its a pretty nice hat. I have never worn one myself so I can't give an accurate critique. To the best of my knowledge it's the only hat that comes with an owners manual. I like that feature. For less than half the price I bought a "OR" (Outdoor Research) hat. It suits my needs and I skimp on costs whenever I can. Because I'm a cheap skate on most items I am fortunate to be able to afford a few "L" series lenses....

I have the good fortune to live in Toronto and have been to the Tilley store several times. I also own one of their hats and love it. They are the pinnacle of the build a better product marketing strategy.
One other Tilley item that you may also like is their "Vest of Many Pockets" or "VOMP". Makes a great photographers vest and is produced with the same commitment to quality.

The Tilley is a classic. My wife and I got them years ago. It's excellent quality, but I can't remember the lat time I wore it.

According to the Tilley company, their hats were used by the Canadian military in the African desert during WWII (Romel's time) so that makes the company over 67 years in business (I'm 67 and WWII was before I was born.) My husband and I discovered Tilley quite a while ago - we married in 81 and didn't get ours for several years. My husband has gone through 3 hats (his sweat is very acidic) and currently has two - one for summer (canvas) and one for winter (felt). I have one that will go with me on my backtoback last Mediterranean and first Atlantic crossing in less than 2 weeks. Advise you to go to a store that carries them and try them on to find your exact hat size - these are NOT one-size-fits-all. Oh yes, the "double strap" is actually one very long shoe-lace that makes into a loup that goes around the hat on the insides at the front and back. If you tie it right you can adjust as necessary to keep the hat from flying off in heavy winds. We DEFINITELY recommend the Tilley hats.

Have worn Tilley's for over 20 years. Great lifetime warranty. I got ink on one(washing machine on cruise ship). Tilley sent me a new hat. Also a great conversation starter

I bought one (T4) 2 1/2 years ago to section hike the AT in Virginia. My ears easily burn and the Tilley solved that problem. The Tilley was also great in a couple of frog stranglers I got caught in. Great quality and you won't be disappointed.

Great hat for twenty years. Used the Tilley for fishing almost daily for over 10 years and in Kauai for hiking for over twenty and it has been with us on many international trips. Lost it in Salerno, Italy on a small tour bus, broke my heart, but found it three days later on another tour jammed next to the seat, what are the chances of getting the same tour bus and finding my much loved Tilley? Everyone on the tour cheered when I found it. Beware, they become like members of your family. The straps are very handy in windy situations and the hidden pocket has saved me more than once when I needed some cash and did not have my wallet.

I have two, one for winter and one three season. Wouldn't trade either of them. In addition to being comfortable, and easy to clean, they float. Occasionally handy on the water!

Best investment you will ever make !!!! My original one I still use for golfing and photo shoots. the wider brim keeps the intense sun off my ears here in Florida. Most men over 60 have the tops of their ears removed by a dermatologist because of skin cancer. My GOOD one has the mesh and I wear it for special occasions. Wearing a Tilley, is like riding a Harley-Davidson, anyone who wears one waves to anyone else wearing one---Its kinda fun to have one !!!!!
