Had to do kitchen sink at dusk so turned on lights in kitchen.

Here are is my offering for Lesson 2.

I set for Shutter priority. I did not notice ISO compensation for light. Am I missing something? Or is this my lesson. :?:

I believe MWAC was meaning to show us the relationship to movement and shutter speed in this lesson, rather all the ins and outs of shutter speed shot in it's entirety. All previous submissions including mine have color and light issues when shutter speed is set to make the water blur into a mist. That part was meant to be a "special assignment" for the "rockstars" who dared to do it... lol

Beautiful waterfall with the "misted" effect.

Just found this quote, it makes sense.

FAST Shutter Speed = Short Time Period to FREEZE Motion.

SLOW Shutter Speed = Long Time Period to BLUR Motion.

Now I need to get my pictures sent.

Another fun exercise - thank you, MWAC.

Nikon D40, AF 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor.

I used a kitchen mortar in the sink. I placed fluorescent work lights on either side of the sink for lighting the first three shots. The ISO had to be dropped down for the one second exposure. For the ten second exposure, I had to turn off the work lights and only use the kitchen ceiling light.

1/160 starts to stop the action, but there is still movement shown. 1/1000 stops the action pretty well. I also shot one at 1/2000 second, but it was not any different from 1/1000.

The two long exposures really blur the water as it drops from the faucet, giving a silky appearance. I cans see the faintest hint of the water flowing off the mortar at 1 second, but it is completely invisible at ten seconds.

I found that my cheap ND filter makes the whole picture blurry.

LESSON 2 . I did these at work to save some time. In shutter priority mode. I am using a Canon XS with a 18-200 Tamron lens. The iso was kept at 400 I think.
The first one shutter speed of 1/1000 an aperture of f4.5. The water is very focus or frozen and the picture was darker.
The second one shutter speed of 1/250 an aperture of f4.5. The water starting to become a bit more blur and starting to get darker.
The third one . . is a slow shutter speed of 1/8 an aperture of f-20. Very blur water.

Second one should be started to get lighter

You might want to try a couple more shots at, say, 1/10 second, 1/25 second. These also should show blur because the shutter speed can't capture the drops in place. At 1/1000 and 1/4000 second, you've frozen the water in place. The 1/160 is actually a little sharper than I'd have expected, but that's why I'm suggesting a couple of shots at lower speeds.
I couldn't get 1/25. Thanks to all

I feel I really learned a lot from this lesson. I must have shot about 50 images before I realized leaving my ISO set on 400 was not going to work for all of them. I then set my ISO on auto and I believe this worked better for me. All day the wind was gusting hard and that didn't help my cause. In 1 photo I see my "Goldie" managed to get in the scene. Using Canon T2i

Hi everyone and hope all of you are having a great week.

I just want to thank you MWAC for these lessons. My pictures may not reflect it, but I am learning and I do hope as I continue to take pictures, I will get better.

I passed a lovely fountain yesterday that would have been nice to photograph but didn't have my camera with me. It started raining (much needed) before I could get home and go back and it's still raining this morning. Lesson learned - Always have your camera with you. I have taken my pictures in the sink this morning and since the sun in not out, I really had to bump up my ISO on a couple of them.

I'm really looking forward to next week's lesson.
