Suggestions on an inexpensive Database please

I’ve had it with Act!. Great program when it is running properly but every time I change something it seems like there is a problem. I recently changed my monitor to a higher resolution and bingo Act! is screwed up. Everything else on the computer seems to work OK.

I need an inexpensive program that will keep names and addresses, perhaps a note section and a calendar that reminds you when an appointment is due or something. That’s about all I need it to do. Since I’m retired I don’t need all the bells and whistles that come with Act!. I refuse to pay the money Act! wants to update the program so I can receive help to straighten it out.

Anyone using a program that fits that description?

Open Office is a free program that includes a database program. It's like Microsoft Office but free.

You might try Google Docs, although I'm not sure if they an actual database. But you could put every in the spreadsheet. Their calendar/to-do list is good.

If you wanted to write something you could use MS Excel or MS Access. There are prewritten free sheets you can download but MS Office has gone to subscription so you need to find older free-standing copies.

I use RGS Cardmaster (free) for an address book with names, addresses, and phone numbers. It can print mail labels too. RGS can export its data to a cvs file which can be imported into Xcel or any program that can use the cvs file. I also use K Organizer (KOrg - free) for an organizer, to-do, calendar, appointment reminder program. Both are free and work well. Have a GREAT DAY!

The K Organizer program looks like it will do what I need it to do but I have had no luck figuring out how to download it. Saw a couple downloads but they didn't specifically say K Organizer so I was reluctant to download. Any suggestions?

If you have ms-office prof version you will have Access. Easy to use if you need a relational database. From what you describe a flat-file db may do the job. Could use Excel or any other spreadsheet. They all have sorting and filtering abilities which are v easy to use.
If you don't have ms-office try Open Office (free) or one of the other free and open source products. Google for free open source database or office.
Cheers.

I've been using Microsoft Works for years - scaled back word processor and spread sheet but a, to me, very usable data base. I use it to catalog my photographic equipment, my library and passwords. I assume Works is still available....

Do you know if Open Office will open a Microsoft .doc file created in Word 97. I recently purchased a Xerox laser color printer at a really good price from Costco but when I attempt to print a .doc file the Word program shuts down. I have no problems printing an Excel 97.xls file.
