I noticed that Sony is coming up with an SLT versus an SLR.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyslta55/ I love the video performance with this device, and the ISO is outstanding.
10 frames per second in RAW. Outstanding.
I haven't seen a price on these yet (still reading the article), but this could make me actually think about trading in my Canon in another year or so.
They have a few of these out now. They are supposed to be pretty good. The 24mp full frame version with a lens is just under $2000.00. They are developing a 36mp version right now. I own the a580 which is a DSLR @16mp and I am happy so far. I thought about buying the a77 but I still prefer an optical viewfinder.
I couldn't wait any longer on the A-77 cause we were going to go on a cruise so I bought the A-55. I have not found anything I do not like yet I got in in August and have shot over 4k pics with it. My recent entries in our Fall show won 2- first place , Best in show and got 3 HMs. Not too bad for a guy who just started in real Photography last June. hope this helps. Plus you can get some real good vintage Minolta AF Lens for a reasonable price. They will fit right on with no problems. Good luck
I went from my old Minolta(film) to Sony's A700 and then I followed up with the A55 and I love this camera. I shoot for the local MLS soccer team, Sporting Kansas City. I shoot hi speed with a 70-300 and come home and have anywhere from 2000 to 3000 pics to edit. Camera bodies are getting smaller (A55).
Yep,I did a lot of soul searching, and researching. Sony is a great camera and my old glass highly rated. Especially fantastic is the new 35-55-77 cameras. I bought a refurbished 230 for $100 above the Sony 18-55mm lens price. and will shoot a few weddings and plow that $ into upgrading.
I will keep the 230 as a backup and to avoid changing lenses during a shoot. Even the 230 is a great camera. Good thing I only trashed the ol' 7000i film body. Eventually I will take the plunge after the prices plunge.
When you stop to consider that body is the price of a mediocre point and shoot camera!
I also bought an adapter (EBay, shipped quickly from China) for the old m42 screw mounts to use with an extension tube, a quick check this AM suggests that my 1:1 is about 6 feet with a 1972 "Sears" 200mm (no zoom)3.5 lens. The adapter requires Manual focus,,, So what? Frankly, I believe this Sears 200mm had a Cast Iron body not steel, not aluminum not plastic!! Just the inercia of that weight prevents shake!

Don't trade your Canon for the Sony A55 if I were you I would trade it for the Sony A77. Read this months Popular Photography on the A77. The A55 is not weather proof and is only a fair weather entry level camera, the A77 is fully weather proof and has many more advanced features and is the only camera in the APS-C range to offer 24.3 mega Pixles.
The idea and specs sound great. BUT you do lose light (1/3 of a stop or so) going to the sensor, which means that the viewfinder must not be as bright (I must be missing something). However the thing that caused me to pause the most is that I read that the translucent mirror makes it more susceptible to dust not less as one might think. Plus you are putting one more piece of glass between your subject and your sensor.

Not so, I have the A55 and the viewfinder is brighter than you would think. If you have a chance to go to a camera store that has one check it out. I find no appreciable loss of light (aperture difference) with the translucent technology. The self-cleaning feature removes dust from the translucent mirror, I have had this and in the menu is a feature that allows the dust to vibrate lose and can be blown out. I would advise an individual to buy the A77 over the A55 due to the weather proofing and more.

The a65 has the same sensor but less features therefore, cheaper price tag. It will be interesting to see which one sells better.
Which camera is best will often depend on what you are doing with it. Most of my heavy cameras like the Cannon D50 end up on a shelf and I grab a comparatively light Sony 550.
