Raging Logging Trucks!

While we were looking for a place to camp near Glacier National Park we came upon a road (thankfully we had pulled over to check out a campsite) when suddenly we heard a loud blast (it was the truckers horn) and within seconds barreling down the small country road came a trucker...then another and then another and so forth and so on! I'm just glad we were off the road, I snapped a few of them to share.

Nice images Rena they are scary when they're flying down a mountain road.

Super set Rena, It reminds me dodging the Log Truckers in Canada a few years back, quite scary,

You don't want to be riding behind three of them in a convertible. Imagine the mess when one of them crashes.

Yup! You gotta be careful in logging country! In many instances, they own the land and normal traffic laws don't really apply to them. In Maine, where the roads are often built and owned by the timber companies, you've got to stay out of their way. They're interested in making time and not so much in dodging tourists. I think you've found out that when you're on their roads during the working week, it's best to give them plenty of room and a wide berth.

You really captured what I imagine was the spirit (terror?) of the moment. Those trucks even look loud! Use a lot of the road, too.

In 1964 I was on vacation in Colorado going south out of Lead ville in my MG gawking around looking at the sights. I heard a Woof woof and looked in my mirror and all I saw was a radiator. It was one of big log trucks, guess I was blocking his way. you can be sure I got going and out of his way.......

Very nice photos, Rena. I remember encountering a fully loaded redwood truck about 50 years ago in California. We had NOT pulled off the road. It got quite interesting!

Back in the early 60s as a student at Oregon State did a lot of 10-speed road bike riding; one of the fun trips to do was to go up to Alsea Summit on the Alsea Highway, Hwy 34, out of Philomath and race the logging trucks down the mountain. While we could outdo them on the initial steeper parts before they passed near the bottom, it was really more fun just to draft them on the way down. And while I did some photography during those years none of logging trucks or this particular fun thing to do. And yes, meeting a logging truck on a dirt road in the Redwoods in northern California is indeed an experience!
