Some people believe that having your picture taken can steal your soul

January of 1942 my Dad was walking down Broad Street in Newark trying to join the service , the recruitment centers were full and had to go over to NYC to join up . Anyway a guy was snapping pictures for 25 cents . Within a couple of weeks he got the B&W print in the mail . I still have the photo . He looks like he has the weight of the world on him . I guess he did .
So that's the way to take pictures of people . They pay , you take the picture and then get it in the mail / Email .
But there is a comment above that makes a lot of sense . " Everyone has cameras now , so it's no big deal anymore ". So I suppose people are being polite to say yes , but in reality now , it really is no big deal .
Oh , how I dislike the 21st Century ! LOL

More of a Psychological Question is this one I suppose ..

I do lots of Street Photography with the Emphasis on Alternative / counter Culture etc ,
as well as Large outdoor events ..

I often Stop people in the Street ( men or women or groups )and ask if I could take their photo .. 99% they say yes ..
They sometimes ask for a card so they can get an free Email Copy .. And sometimes I give them
a card and say they are welcome to free copy via email if they write to me .

But what happens is that 99% Dont write ..
Cant understand this .. Surely they would want to see the image ?

Am trying to understand the Psychology behind this ..
Someone said ' It's because they are apprehensive '
Of What ? What's the worst that can happen ?

Any thoughts on this ?
Any same experience ?

Cheers

They were probably drunk and forgot. What difference doesn it make?? You're gonna have a heart attack if a little thing like that bothers you.

I would suspect the main reason is that most people just plain forget. When I am given a business card, I tuck it away and most times forget about it.

Yes, everyone today has a camera, be it smartphone, DSLR or pocket type. Someone took a photo of me just last week via smartphone, and immediately sent it to me via email. No film developing, no stamp and envelope to send it. And we thought the VCR was progress.

Simple, being counter culture, they probably get so stoned afterwards, they completely forget it ever happened.

That is just plain silly. No one can victimize you if you don't allow it. Giving your email address to someone is no different than giving them your mailing address. I've been using the web and email before most people even knew it existed. Never have had a problem. One golden rule is all you need to be safe; "Never open any email attachments". Of course there are exceptions, but that just confuses people. If someone starts sending you unwanted emails, just mark them as spam and/or report them and they will soon stop or be filtered out.

A friend of mine did this "study" in downtown Santa Fe on the Plaza. He set up a little "studio" and asked random people if he could photograph them. With all the people he photographed 90% of the women did not like how they looked. He had his computer set up so they can see the images instantly. 100% of the men were fine with their shots. I do think it was interesting that so many women felt they did not like how they looked. Made me wonder what our expectations are and where they come from? He sent them all there images regardless if they liked them or not. POI, he is a psychologist and wanted to do this for more understanding.

The desire to see the picture that someone else took of you would be narcissistic and most people are not!

I've had people ask me to take their picture. As soon as I click the shutter they think me and walk away. It always leaves me wondering why they asked in the first place. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about it. By giving them your card it showed you were credible photographer.

My guess is that they're trying to avoid seeing your sales gimmick. You might get a better response by asking for their email address. Tell them you'll send it to them. Try split testing this.
