Dear All, I am still thinking about the gears I would bring for my coming trip to Japan (late October) with my family. I have the following Nikon gears: Nikon D4S, Nikon D800 and Nikon D500. For lens, I have 14-24/f2.8, 24-70/f2.8, 24-120/f4, 70-200/f2.8 VRII, 200-400/F4 VRII, 200-500/f5.6E, 60 macro/f2.8, 105 macro/f2.8, and 800/f5.6E VR. I would need to carry very light and bring only one body with me. I am considering to bring just D500 with 24-120mm and pre-ordered iPhone 7 plus (phone is just for real wide shots if absolutely needed). Any other suggestions? Thanks!
I am sorry but if you have all these cameras and do not know what to select you need to sell all of them and just use your phone as you already suggested.
Thanks for the reply! I off course know the use of any specific camera and lens that I have. For my incoming trip, I already have what in my mind. I just would like to know any other suggestion(s) there may be. Thanks!

I think you mean upcoming not incoming.
Choose the gear that will best fit your needs on the trip.
What will you mostly be shooting, 'scapes/wildlife/macro etc ?
The gear needed will be pretty much the same as you use at home.
For general purpose photography a standard zoom will be fine (24-120). In cities and for some 'scapes a wide angle can come in very handy. If you are shooting wildlife (especially smaller stuff) then you will want a lot of reach.
You have 2 full frame cameras and FF 24-120 lens. You are going to Japan. I do not understand the problem.
I think you should buy that newest Sony bridge camera. That way, you will not have to worry about dragging all of those cameras and lenses around and you will still have great photos, even in auto.
Thank you all for your inputs and suggestions!

Before I got to the end of your post, that was my thought, too. One camera, one lens. The iPhone will be able to take panoramas easily, too.

Doesn't it drive you crazy when people keep posting questions about photography and camera gear? If they could just solve their own problems, we could eliminate this Main section and have more jokes.
I just returned from a three week trip to Japan. If it's any help, I took my D7100 with an 18-200 lens that was used most of the time and a 35mm lens for use at night. I never needed nor wished for any other lenses. My goal like yours was to travel light. Even at that I'm considering getting a bridge camera for my next trip. The D7100 is light until you shlep it around on foot in a city for 8 or 10 hours.
Have a great time. Japan is beautiful and the people are wonderful.
Thank you very much for your suggestion with your recent experience!

I'm going to Japan in a few months and I'll be taking my Fuji XT-2 with the 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 lens plus the 27 mm f/2 pancake lens (easier for candid street) and a 12 mm Rokinon f/2 lens for wide angle interiors. This outfit weighs nothing compared to the two Nikon FF's and their pro lenses which I'm leaving at home.
You will be fine with the D500 and 24-120. If you can carry one more lens, then take the 24-70 F2.8.
