Yesterday at Hayden Lake area, I was photographing osprey catching salmon when
I spotted a Great Blue Heron nearby, so I captured it before it flew away.
I couldn't get closer than 200 feet to the Blue Heron.

Photo #1: Canon 5Dsr - Canon 100-400 II - Canon 1.4x III - 1/1328 - f/16 - ISO @ 1250. Distance was about 125-150 feet.
Photo #2: Canon 5Dsr - Canon 100-400 II - Canon 1.4x III - 1/640 - f/13 - ISO @ 1250. Distance was about 200 feet.

The blue heron looks like he's color coordinated
With the blue house in the background. ..beautiful shot.

The quality and consistency of your posts imply difficult, rare, & uncommon hand-held shots can be easy & frequent...and they are NOT (except maybe for you)! Great work!

Regis . . . I dearly love the red salmon images and they ospreys are my favorite birds.

The only downside of this image is that I can't read the tag on the osprey's right leg!

Please do try and do better next time!

I will try to give it my best shot (no pun intended) next time.
I appreciate your great sense of humor, warrenvon. I thank you.

There was a 75 year old woman photographer beside me yesterday with the same lens, extender but different camera
and she was hand holding her shots as well, so anybody can take hand holding wildlife shots with this camera equipment.
I thank you very much, Redrock51, for your great reply.

Another amazing picture of an osprey with lunch! I am very much in tune with your interests in subject matter, and I admire the technical and artistic skill you bring to your images. The great blue heron is truly great (and blue), although I recently posted a mini-rant about a great blue that ate some fish from my backyard pond. Keep showing us your excellent photos.
