Need some help with flat screen vs. curved screen monitors

I've been thinking about upgrading my computer monitor and wonder what the advantage is to a curved screen assuming resolution and size are the same as a flat screen. The cost seems to run about 30% more so I'm assuming there is some advantages?

I've seen them.
In theory, they sound great.
In practice, they require a set viewing distance that may not fit your situation, and limit viewing by other people.
Plus, of course, they cost more to impose these limitations.
But that's just my opinion. I'm sure there will be others.

I know of only one curved monitor, but at $5500.00 it's a little out of my range!

Lots of curved monitors. Dell, Samsung, etc. Prices very depending on sizes.

Um, why a curved TV or monitor to begin with?
I can see it on a projection screen so the sides might be more in focus,
but for monitors it sounds like a sales gimmick to me (unless someone can explain why).

Curved monitors and TV's make straight lines appear to start converging. Take a look at a curved screen while a tennis match is in progress, the vertical lines on the court bend in, which looks weird. Now imagine working with a curved monitor and trying to straighten vertical lines. LOL!

Curved screens are SMOKE and MIRRORS from the manufacturer, just to bump up prices. I have a curved screen TV and any reflection from a window plays havoc trying to get into the right place. Window has to have the blinds pulled if 90 degrees from the window. But the flat screen and save your money for a new camera lens !!!

I own a very nice curved screen TV and find that it really has no advantages except one: a viewer to the extreme right or left of the screen sees a better picture. From in front of the screen I see no difference between a curved or flat screen TV.

It's a Samsung gimmick. Just like 3D TV was.

Save your money. A flat screen is good enough. Sometimes good enough REALLY is good enough. There is a saying thatis used in many instances/ Perfection is the enemy of good.

Thanks for all the replies. After reading I've decided I don't need nor want a curved screen. Thanks again.

Yep, more money for pointless limitations and no real positives! But it's "new" and nobody else has one so it must be worth it.
