First, let me make it VERY clear that I have nothing to do with the Nude section any more than you do, other than the fact that I actually participate. In the early stages(about two months ago) I posted a few clothed shots just because I was afraid the section would fold before it got started since I was in favor of having such a section. It was a pretty slow start. But it's off and running now and no thanks to me but to the posters that have come forward to regularly post their work. I'm not a nude shooter but I do have 1000's of Model images but they are mostly clothed. A few of my Models have asked me to do implieds for them/us, which I do and have posted a few, but they are not nudes.
Your hang-ups are yours, and yours alone. Those hang-ups don't really have any place in a discussion of nude photography. Yes, a few have come in and expressed those personal views and their hang-ups but they have nothing to do with photography. The more you justify it, the more clearly that becomes obvious.
And yes, nudes do include both Men and Women. If you have nude male pics, feel free to post them. A few participants have posted nude men and they where very well done. Most men know more about shooting women than men, hence the preference and many more female images.
I don't see why you feel you would be flamed for broaching the subject of posting nude males. Shooting and posting nude male images should have no relevance to your preference of sexuality in any way, shape or form. If any man asked me to shoot nudes of them, I would gladly do it but I'd have to warn them that I would be a neophyte in that genre!
If you don't like what's being posted, it's your prerogative to participate or stay away. I feel that what I see posted in the nude section, at all levels in general, is at higher levels than what I generally see posted elsewhere on the Hog.
Many seem to be enjoying the fact that they now have somewhere to post their nude work. I, like some others, don't belong to any other forums so the formation of the nude section was a welcome addition, as well as helping the Hog become a more complete forum.
You seem to have some pretty personal distortions and attitudes about what the Nude Section is all about.
In the beginning, there unfortunately were a few individuals that were harassing the women and strongly voicing their personal beliefs but knock on wood, they seen to be gone now. Park any personal attitudes at the door and come in and participate. If it's not for you, there are about 50 other sections on the Hog, If the Nude Section does not pan out for you, I'm sure some of those sections will be a good fit for your style or brand of photography.

First, let me make it VERY clear that I have nothi... (

Sorry, I really thought you were and I did not have a problem with that, quite the contrary.
What hang-up? My only and single reproach is that the quality is similar to 'amateur' voyeurs and so are most of the comments. That is not a hangup. It is an observation.
Men? Did not see any so it shows how little I pay attention. That they are better made, according to you, does not surprise me. They usually are because the models are not 'sex objects' to be displayed, unlike women. I know how internet works. Speaking of male nude when you have a strong older conservative membership is waiving a red cloth in front of a bull. My comment will be transformed sooner or later. That you berate me for 'not having been flamed yet' is strange. It will come back to haunt me.
Nude or more precisely figure photography is the most difficult field as it is very easy to fall into the tawdry. Well most have already have. I see that both in the captures offered and in the comments.
Someone posted pictures of an older woman. The comments were 'She is beautiful' addressing the plastic. Personally I saw the plastic flawed, the captures 'clinical' (no inspiration). I saw something else thought much more important... A woman who, while of a certain age, is strong and affirms her femininity. There is courage in this as well as a show of self confidence few women have, young or old. The pictures are sub par and do not transfer the model qualities. The comments are worse, demeaning at best. The end result is deplorable. Do I see too much? I do not think so.
Another posted some 'nudes' and mentioned that she was drunk and later became a porn actress... This says it all. I somehow am in contact with a photographer who worked with the SG porn web site. I asked some questions. Turns out that they refuse to take pictures of anyone who comes in drunk or high for a shoot. For all he knew or cared some could be addicts or drunks but they better be sober for the shoot to be accepted.
THAT is the beef I have with nudes and not only in UHH.
There is another issue that can shutdown UHH if one model has not signed a release and somehow find herself here. If you think every 'photographer' here has model release that includes digital rights anywhere you are naive. I have the same concerns with anyone publishing a portrait w/o authorization. I have spotted at least one (that I commented on as 'not original enough') that certainly does not have a release as it was a poor scan of an image taken when even scanners did not exist so the possible release is at the very least iffy.
But then again, who am I to point out this sort of things? An idiot to even dare approaching the truth.
As to "morality" hang-up, I am the one suggesting hiring prostitutes because they would be cheaper than a professional model (does not mean you do not need a signed release).
