Okay, here's something to ponder: Were the lyrics to The song of Snoopy fighting the Red Baron based on this story? The song was first written and recorded by an English group in 1966 (look it up on Wikipedia) who would have had access to the facts from vintage news accounts and information of the heroic act. And again, there's the "coincidental" name of Charlie Brown? Just me and my wife's 2 cents worth.

Great story showing how honorable men behave.
Great story Moose, thanks for sharing.
A fascinating, true story. I have read the book (twice) and highly recommend it. There has been some internet chat about making a movie of this episode, but
it doesn't seem to be happening.

I read "A Higher Call" just after it came out, it's a fascinating book about both men. I would recommend it.
I read it and loved it. I like it so much I got a copy for my daughter and sent it to her to read. My father was a B-24 crew member stationed in Italy in WWII, and I love to read stuff about the "Great War"
Thank you for sharing that amazing story!

There is a UTube video of the two pilots meeting in Florida.....It was a touching event.
Incredible and inspiring account of two fine human beings and their humanity. Thank you for posting this.
A wonderful story. Miracles happen. The B17 made it back to Britain. Crew members wounds were healed. And most of all enemies became friends. Mahalo for sharing.

There are several Youtube vids about this plane. I don't think it is the one in the story howeve,r cuz the tail gunner in the plane in the picture was not killed. Incredible that this plane survived.

An inspiring story.............Thanks for sharing these links of an incredible story of human compassion. It reminded me of an epitaph I read years ago in Sligo, Ireland that read, "An act of human kindness, once set in motion, endures forever."
