Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

This beauty was sunning itself on a gravel road near my house.
It never got defensive with me, close as I got was about 5 feet
before it slithered off into the field next to the road.

Nice Diamond Back. Good size. Fun to see. Actually they don't want to see you any more than many folks don't want to see them. Proper behavior, leave them alone and they will leave you alone.

Thank you Orca, these were taken with a 24-120f/4 on a D800E. I was concerned about getting as
much DOF as I could so I used the wide angle zoom. I did have a 300mm mounted on a crop sensor
camera, only had a minute before this snake slithered off.

Thank you Nalu, this was the second rattlesnake I've seen in the 10 years I've lived in this area.

Thank you Islandgal, where I live is considered high desert. Quite hot and dry in the summers.

retreated to the field. It was just laying in the road when I approached.
