We are going on a 14 day holiday. I want to set a new storage folder for each day. Just tried it and all the images on the memory card were downloaded onto the computer even though one of the two folders in the cameras memory was highlighted. How can I do this so that when I get home I can download each day onto the computer. Don't like taking the laptop the with me. The camera is a D5300. Thanks for any tips.
There's always the old fashioned way of doing it: copy - paste
This gives you complete control over which files are to be transferred, and whereto they are transferred.

First off, which Nikon program are you using to download to computer?
It might mean more work on your part:
Jot down file# description
Rename when loading to computer
JUST a suggestion!
If I have 4 different folders in the camera why can't I download each individually with the folder downloaded highlighted in the camera?? Maybe this is a better way of explaining the problem. Seems pointless having this feature in the camera. They are downloaded to View NX2.

That's a good question, but how could you do that? You can't tell the camera to upload only the highlighted folder. As others have said, you will have to upload each folder's images to your computer and then do what you want with them

viewnx2 transfers files and displays them grouped by the date. it uses the date stamp of the image file.
For a windows computer, transfer all your files to a single folder on a computer. Open that file with Windows Explorer and click the date heading. All the files are then arranged by date. At that point break the picture files into sub folders by day. This works particularly well when you’re working with files from several cameras.

I don't like to use my camera for jobs better done by other equipment. So, remove the memory card, plug into pc and use windows file system to move pics to folders of my choice.
I have roughly 10 memory cards so would fill them on a trip/job and download later.
But that's just my way.
I've used Nikon ViewNX for years. It allows me to control the location which selected files will be saved, rename them in the process, etc.

View NXi gives you the option of creating separate folders for each day even if you load them all together. You can also choose to download only new files.
