Virginia: Shenandoah Valley (along I81), the Historic Triangle of Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown. Also Busch Gardens @ Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, and the Skyline Drive. North Carolina: The OBX beach towns (Nags Head, Duck, Wright Bros. Memorial, and Kitty Hawk. On the OBX there is great fishing on the beach, pier or on a "Head Boat") These are just a few of the many photo rich places to visit. Triple A will also help you with routing and plans. Also, all of these places are family friendly. As far as hidden gems, well all of these places are good jumping off points. For instance, the South end of Roanoke Island, NC on the OBX. It is really hard not to shoot a great sea or "sandscape" on the OBX. All of these places listed have enormous potential. Please have a safe and relaxing trip. Jim Turner

My wife and I will be traveling to and down the east coast in our travel trailer over the next three months. This will be the first time either of us has ever been to that part of the country, which brings me to my request: if you live in the east, or if you have traveled and photographed extensively there, would you be so kind as to share one or two of your favorite photo opportunities that shouldn't be missed? I'm certain we can find all the iconic photos, but I'm also interested in finding those little hidden gems that only the locals know about. I am primarily a landscape photographer, but for this trip I'll also be very interested in cityscapes, architecture, night shots and wildlife.

Here are the states we plan on visiting: Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Deleware, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, W.Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, N.Carolina, S.Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas.

Since we will be getting on the road in the next day or two I will say thanks now to everyone who responds. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Roger

being a snow birder i have gone up and down the east coast many times...there are photo ops anywhere you go if you have the eye....however i find that New York can be one of the most eclectic areas around to shoot many different styles.it is nothing like any other state. in the city there are amazing museums ..the street photos are amazing ..people are so varied..different cultures ..the architect ..parking would be difficult..so you would have to find somewhere out of the area and take a bus or train in...spend a few days..new york has country ..mountains..parks....beaches...and large cities with buildings that have character..you could spend weeks and never get your fill..being a new yorker myself of course i am going to brag about my state...but when you do drive through this state you will not be disappointed..have fun traveling..stay safe..

Yes....a walk down Duke of Gloucester Street--Colonial Williamsburg is amazing. I live in the area and it always draws me back! Golden light/Sweet light PM is very interesting, especially when you walk back behind the main street/s.
